BA Hostile Harry was released in December, but Spiteful is releasing a cinnamon variant and Malevolence on Friday, January 31st at the brewery (taproom only). Really loved the base and their three variants last year, with coconut my favorite. Looking forward to the release, hope the weather cooperates.
It's been a while since I had both, but while BA MCC was initially one of my favorite beers, the last batch of BA Harry beat it. If Spiteful made more of these I think they'd be on most people's radars.
I just saw today that mixed 4 packs of their Layer Cake stout have hit distribution. Anyone had any of them? If so, any good?
Can't help there, but Beermiscuous was selling singles of them last night when I stopped by, in case anyone is looking for less than a 4-pack.
I like Spiteful, but have always considered them a PW-lite. Meaning, they do good stuff, but every style they do, I think PW does just a bit better.
I bought singles of Almond Vanilla Chocolate & Cherry Almond Vanilla Chocolate (the last two cans at Bottles & Cans). Had the Almond Vanilla Chocolate last night...and while it was OK, it hardly justified the $5+ price per can. SUPER sweet, borderline cloying.
God Damn Pigeon Porter is one of the beers I try to keep in stock here at the abode. But sometime in 2020, it needs to brew and release Up Your Nose With A {flavor} Gose©®™.
A few dozen early, taproom comfortable throughout the afternoon. Both pours were good, similar. Cinnamon forward, more pepper on the caliente, body thin similar to Central Waters stouts. I rated these very good, but like the Hostile Harry variants more last year. Cans were pricey ($11 each - 12oz), didn't leave with any. Still glad I went, may go back for another try next week and sample a few others.
Two packs of all the BA beers are still the available. The mixed 4 packs are sold out, I settled on 2 pack of malevolence chocolate caliente instead.
I had both on tap on Friday when they opened and thought the adjuncts came out well in both of them, but the stouts themselves were definitely on the thinner side. I did buy some cans of each (including the mixed 4 pack, thanks to @Quilentro convincing me to do it), so I'll see how the canned versions compare soon.
Spiteful open for pick up, all of the 2020 Barrel Aged pours are available as is God Damn Pigeon Porter and a few other pours. Their standard IPA and Working for the Weekend are listed as sold out.
Spiteful is taking orders online, and you can walk in for orders as well. Stopped by yesterday for Mrs. O'Leary's Raspberry Milk Stout and Spiteful IPA with Tangerine. The later was canned on Saint Patrick's Day, a fresh and great pour. Sweet tangerine aroma, backed by citrus and pine. The tangerine and citrus sweetness balanced by bitter hops. Medium body, nice carbonation throughout the pour, clean crisp finish. Definitely going back in a week or two for more once this batch is gone. Stay fresh and local!
So I recently purchased a 4 pack of Malevolence Caliente (non BA) from Binny’s. So far, 2 of the cans have been complete gushers. Has anyone else come across this or heard anything similar? I wouldn’t complain if it was one can, but two is not normal.
I had a can that gushed. Also, maybe about a year ago, a friend opened an older bottle (I think it had two years when we opened it last year) and it was a gusher and infected. We opened the other bottle we had the same night and had the same result. Seems to be a persistent problem.
Mine definitely aren’t infected. No off flavors. So at least I could drink what I could salvage. But I’m definitely getting my next can on video just in case. At $20 a 4 pack, I expect to be able to drink more than half a can each.
Yeah, I should have clarified, the older bottles we had last year were infected. The can I had that gushed was not infected but I lost a significant portion of it.
As part of this "Beer Hero" scheme being promulgated, last Thursday, instead of staying in and doing that pathetic Zoom videoconferencing calamity, I sent myself out on transit. My first stop was at Spiteful, where I bought a 6-pack of 12-oz. cans of its Vienna Lager. It tastes pretty good. I thought it should have more malt character versus a German Pilsner, and it lucidly is not its Porter (which I expected to buy, but it did not have any). The setup at Spiteful is that there is a different door you enter depending on whether you ordered the beer online, or if you are walking-in. But both terminate at the same spot.
