Spiteful Brewing just announced their "first annual A Goddamn Delightful Day"

So, first off, love Spiteful and what they are doing. The God Damn Pigeon Porter is very good and I really enjoy it. This event looks cool, and I've heard lots of rave reviews about the BA Chocolate Caliente Stout (although I didn't love the base stout). But is it just me or does this seem really expensive? 3 bottles, 1 3 oz. pour and two glasses for $110?

It does seem high, especially when you compare it to Fobab's ticket price when most of us first had it. I'd have to imagine it's a way for the brewery to realize after-market dollars on the Caliente? I'm no expert in beer economics, just a guess.

eh, I'm ok with this...should I not be? $25 a bottle, 5$ for the pour, $30 for the 2 glasses. Barrel Massacre was $70 something and didn't include the bottles.

$30 for glasses is what I dont like about this deal. Maybe a tshirt but not for glasses.

Yeah, I've never seen a $15 glass before. I'd be curious what went into the pricing.

It's high, but I don't think it's absurdly so. BA Chocolate Caliente has a ton of hype. I'd call it comparable to a DL variant or Ardea Insignis, which went for 50 and 40 respectively. The BA Pigeon is a bit of a wildcard, call it 20 a piece. So you're at 80 or 90 before adding the glasses and the pour.

Unfortunately that's becoming the norm on these kind of releases.

I think the misstep here is charging a flat $110 including everything, instead of a lower price just for entry (or maybe include BA Malevolence). Pricing is a little high either way, but it'd be more palatable if you weren't forced to purchase everything.

This is not a good example by which to baseline value for this event or any others of similar ilk.

BA Chocolate Caliente is one of my all-time favorite beers, and was insanely hard to get when it was released last. With that being said, it was released at, what, a $25 price point? It's hard to justify a "hype" increase of almost $20.

    *looks up Ardea Insignis*

Also, it's not like Malevolence was barrel-aged for 3 years in super old bourbon barrels, so that pricing wouldn't be justified either way (and to be clear--I'd probably still prefer Malevolence, I just don't think that price is justified).

Yeah, I think $15 is what it's been historically. Snifters are typically more expensive than other glassware (deserved or not) in my experience.

I'd agree, sell me the glasses separately and charge me $85 instead. That would be $40 for caliente, $20 each for BA pigeon, and $5 pour. If I want the glasses, a shirt, etc have a swag booth and let me decide.

Agreed. It's not that the price is so far out of whack, but I just don't need the two glasses or two bottles of BA GDPP. I'd be slightly more interested if it was three distinct BA beers. Honestly, if I could pay $20 entry with a guarantee of buying a bottle of Malevolence Caliente at $25 with some other Spiteful beers on tap to purchase I'd be a happy camper. Who knows, after a couple I might even purchase the glasses or a shirt, so I'd probably be spending close to the $110 anyhow. I do get that the all-in pricing makes it easier for the brewery/host of the even, but it makes it less palatable for me, as the consumer.

Those were just the first 2 examples that came to mind. Rue the Crown is another at 50 that was aged forever, but it's Toppling Goliath so people will buy it even though they have no idea what a starkbier is. BA Dark Crusader is another that just went for 35 at GI, and I don't think it was all THAT great. I'm sure more experienced whale hunters can come up with others.

I guess I'm just not surprised a brewery upped the price on a beer that was a huge hit at FOBAB.

Should be renamed "A God Damn Expensive Day." Looks like someone has to pay for the new brewery...
