I kinda feel the same way, I really don’t trade any more either, turns out I liked the beers I was shipping more than the beers I got. If you look at it from a practical standpoint I’m sure the cost of the secondary market is close enough to the costs of trading. Anyone who’s shipped a 30 lb box of beer to the others side of the US knows how expensive it can get, then there’s the weather to worry about, breakage, confiscated boxes etc. so much less of a hassle to use the secondary market.

I have a feeling we will be saying that often for the foreseeable future. Gotta try to stand out in a crowded Market these days.

I was hoping that this insane bottle-costuming would end with that gross-looking squirrel that BrewDog used a few years ago. Apparently not.

If it was me, I'd spend about $10-15 on a bomber of a BA imperial stout and spend the other $185-190 on NEIPAs, imperial stouts, and Oktoberfests. Stock the fridge.

Smart move is to buy great stouts that relatively easy to get so you don't overpay for what you are getting. Most of the Prairie Bomb series, Funky Bhuda Morning Wood is sold to retail stores in FL. If the beer is brewery only special release requiring a ticket or standing in line to get, would stay away from buying. Those are the beers to sell on secondary.

Yeah you can get 3 kick ass bourbons for $60+ a pop, thats what I would do imho and it'll most likely last you longer

Any of the AleSmith Order of the Anvil stouts are a good choice but Lotza Vanilla is probably the frontrunner

So this is sort of off topic but the $200 price tag got me thinking, if you have never been to GABF I suggest going at least once in your life. It’s the equivalent of the Toys ‘r Us shopping spree for craft beer loving adults. My wife used to sign up for the home brew association to get a guaranteed shot at Saturday tickets. $75 for the fee then two tix for $150, so $225 overall. Yes, you would need to get to Denver and of course hotel fee, but the first few times we went I had exponentially more fun than any $100 or $200 bottle of beer could bring. Many whales there to try in your 4 hour window, I’ve knocked many ticks like ‘14 Vanilla Rye, ANTEAD, Cognac Zukov, Utopias, etc. Just my two cents, pick them up of leave them on the floor.

Wasn't it like +$25 a bottle before that price point became popular and was exceeded?

I found it in Columbus for $29.99, then debated with myself for an hour before deciding to pull the trigger. After reading about how it was made and then sampling it after carefully following the prep instructions in the owner's manual (!) that came with it, I began to realize what a bargain it was at that price. It is tailor-made for celebrations and for sharing.

It's always been $40-ish in the decade and a half I've seen it around here.

If I ever hit the lottery, that stuff gonna be my daily shelfie!

I'll keep this in mind for the next few years. Vacations have already been planned for this year and getting married in a few weeks has chewed up most of my PTO. I really like this idea though. Thanks!
