Since spring is finally here and we're warming up, I've been on the lookout for maibocks. Has anyone had any luck finding Hofbrau or Ayinger Maibock yet in DFW?
I know it doesn’t help where you’re at, but Krauses in New Braunfels just recently tapped Hofbrau Maibock. Maybe it’s hitting your area now too.
I haven't been to a liquor store in a long time so I definitely haven't seen the German Maibocks. Are there any local breweries coming out with Maibocks this year? I think that Cowtown Brewing recently tapped their La Cabra Dorada. But I don't know of any others.
I wish I could try that. I don't expect to be going down to Austin anytime soon though. Maibocks are to seldom seen nowadays. I understand that breweries want to actually make money... And Maibocks are not IPA's, pastry stouts, or fruited sours so most beer consumers nowadays don't buy them.
It's definitely one of the rarer styles, even in a state like Texas that has a fair number of breweries that live on making German styles. Still no dice on any imports although I'm not holding out much hope for many showing up in the area. May take a triple to Cowtown to grab La Cabra Dorada.
Got lucky and found some Oak Highlands Tipsy Goat. It's no Hofbrau/Ayinger but a great local substitute for sure.
Oh yeah. I did try that this year. It was back in February or March I think so I didn't think of it in regards to Maibocks. I agree with your assessment of it.
So was at BJ's Brewhouse the other night for a bite to eat and one of their seasonal beers is a Silver Bock. They list it as and it fit the bill nicely
