Hi, new home brewer here. I just got a new BSG 6.5 gallon kit and I want to break it in! Im looking for a Spring Ale Kit from an already prepared kit.Something from like Northern Brewer,Midwest, or Austin or any other site someone may suggest. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance for the help!
I've never heard of a Spring Ale, so I googled it and this is one of the links that I came up with: http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/spring-ale-recipe-112041/ But I still don't know what 'officially' a Spring Ale is.
An example of a spring ale is - Sam Adams Porch Rocker, Sam Adams alpine spring, Blue Moon First Peach ale, etc. Or what ales do you like to brew in the spring?
Can't say I've had any of those beers. I don't really brew seasonally, so I can't help much there, but maybe see what style those beers are, then look for the same style in a kit description. Alternatively, what is it that you like about those beers?
Maybe a Cream Ale will be a good spring beer for you? The kit from Northern Brewer has a lot of reviews and is rated highly: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/brewing/recipe-kits/extract-kits/cream-ale-extract-kit.html Good luck with whatever you decide to brew. Cheers!
To me a 'spring' ale (beer/lager) would be a Maibock just because of tradition. But that sounds like it goes counter to what the OP is seeking because it would be heavier rather than lighter. When considering the beers that the OP listed as examples of what is in his definition, I'd say a fruity saison might fit. Or how about a clone of Bell's Oberon?
Maybe something like this? Not many reviews, but I've been toying with the idea of making this one myself. http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/...t-ale-kits/ares-biere-de-mars-recipe-kit.html @golfgod04 - I don't think you can go too far wrong with Northern Brewer kits, but visiting the LHBS (Local Home Brew Shop) is an option too. Mine has some kits pre-packaged for various skill levels already on shelf. But they will also pretty much package anything you want up in "kit" form and help with instructions. Discuss what you are looking for with folks face-to-face and they can help steer you in the right direction, make new friends, try some home brew most likely.

Unless you plan on dying soon, there's plenty of time to brew more beer Buy a few kits and feel better that you already have options that will be coming down the line, instead of feeling pigeon holed into picking the perfect brew first. You have to start somewhere!
http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/.../zoomin-pale-ale-20-minute-boil-beer-kit.html This sounds kind of springy to me, and should be an easy brew, but I haven't had the examples you listed earlier to know exactly what you're looking for.
