Due to a death in the family we have a sudden, unexpected trip to Florida this week. It looks like we will be flying in and out of Tampa for the services on thurs in the spring hill/brooksville area ( where will also be staying) and staying till sat or sun. If there is any downtime on Friday or sat I'm hoping to go to cigar city, 7venth, cycle, and/or rapp brewing. Any other Tampa area spots I need to try and do? Any of these I should omit over the others?
Also, is the total wine near Ccb worth checking out? I'm interested in grabbing some solid local-ish beers not distributed in upstate ny. Any suggestions would be great.

Finally, is there anything brewery or beer-wise worth visiting in our home base of spring hill

Thanks everyone we hope to make the best of our downtime during the difficult next few days.

That Total Wine has a solid selection. To my knowledge there are no open breweries in Spring Hill. However, it is not far from Big Storm, which is a solid brewery and that in turn is not an awful drive from Wild Rover. I am personally a fan of both.

Spring Hill is for the most part a craft beer waste land, I know all to well. One store, Beer Frog, has a decent selection but check dates on IPAs if you go there.

Like mentioned the beer frog or I drive south on 19 to the abc in hudson (spring hill abc is horrible), universal liquors, b-21, luekens. Or I drive to tampa to jans wine and boos, tw by ccb, ccb, ccb brewpub, abc on west kennedy, or whole foods. No good breweries, rookies on 19 has some beer that may be from a local brewery or orlando. I dont think its anything outstanding. If youre looking for breweries i like ccb, cycle, rapp. Dunedin brewery had a cool atmosphere but the beers didnt impress me.

It looks like we may do lunch at Ccb tomorrow while we wait to pick up some family members after their flight arrives at Tampa airport. I will likely check out total wine also.

Coming from the north from spring hill, what is the most efficient loop/order to try and visit 7venth, rapp, and cycle on Friday? Big storm looks pretty sweet too. Is it too ambitious to try and do 3-4 of these given their locations? If I had to pick one or two which should I do? Thanks again!

I wasn't 100% sure where Spring Hill was so I Googled it. It looks to me like your going to want to hit 7venth Sun first, then Cycle, and then Rapp. I kinda makes sense that way because its a percfect loop.

Timing looks good too as seventh opens the earliest on fri. Rapp and cycle are later, as is big storm

It looks like we may end up staying closer to Tampa airport on Friday night in order to catch our early afternoon flight on sat a bit easier and explore. Anywhere in the area that you suggest we stay? Something relatively reasonable and walking distance to some breweries or beer bars would be a huge plus! Maybe st Pete area or Dunedin? Are there any hotels walking distance or close to CCB?

Theres a shitty howard johnson walking distance to ccb. Its cheap and old but Ive seen worse. I think theres also a hilton within walking distance. St pete and Dunedin arent really the same area as where ccb is, 20-30 mins away at least I believe. And if strip clubs are your thing youll be in heaven at the ho jo/ccb area!

Eeesh. I'd be willing to stay in st Pete or Dunedin if there was a non-sketchy place with good access to breweries and restaurants. If the Hilton garden near CCB was relatively nice I'd be willing to try that.

The Holiday Inn Express or Best Western in Dunedin are good and right in the middle of the little downtown area. Two Breweries and some good restaurants that mostly have good beer. Certainly a family(and dog) friendly area to visit. I know there are a few hotels in middle of downtown St. Pete but haven't stayed in them to give an opinion. I'm sure the big name hotels are fine there.

Thanks for the info! I see there is a double tree and some other hotels near Ccb as well but we may play by ear on fri depending on where we are and how time is going.

Keep any and all suggestions coming. We are going to Ccb, total wine, and possibly southern brewing early this afternoon while we wait for family to arrive at the airport

Rt 60 is shut down at Rt 19 in Clearwater due to bridge damage, and may not be open until Thursday (maybe). This is a major temporary traffic nightmare. Pay a toll out of the airport and use the Veterans up to 54 or whatever is your best route to Spring Hill.

Also, while at CCB and TW, walk over to Whole Foods next to Home Depot and TW. Sometimes they have goodies in the beer section.

There are TW coupons in today's, (Wed), Tampa Tribune. Front section, page 13. Travelers frequently leave newspapers behind at the airport.
    That's all from me.
    My condolences.
    Stay safe.
    And Cheers.
    Oh, and Go Rays!

CCB and/or the brewpub should be your first priority. Cycle would be next on my list in terms of beer quality, but it is out of the way and tiny and you never know whats going to be available. 7th Sun is also well worth your time if you are anywhere near Dunedin (but thats a big "if"). Rapp is good, but IMO quite a bit overrated, that being said it is in a somewhat central location and if your near it at some point, check it out. Everything else I have tried in the area is not worth going out of your way for.

I'm not sure id even bother with any stores if I were you, most of these breweries sell bottles/cans or fill growlers and I can't imagine theres much in the stores you would be excited about relative to what you can get at home.

Beer frog is worth a stop, not a big fan of the bar next door though (evom). I used to frequent that place but now they usually have about 24 taps of average beers (think wheat beers and sam seasonals) and rarely have any good stouts.
