I'll be in Springfield for a couple days this spring; any beer advice? I'll be checking out Brown Derby International Wine Center and probably Mother's as well.. does Mothers have food there, or can you bring food in? Anything else in or near Springfield I should check out? I'd love to get a couple bottles of Perennial Sump Coffee Stout, which I believe will be hitting stores within a week or so. If someone could pick up one or two for me that would be great. I can bring MN/WI/IA goodies (Surly, Toppling Goliath, New Glarus etc.) I can pick up some Surly Pentagram, which will be released soon. Thanks in advance for help/advice!
Definitely go to Mothers....I don't think they do food but I'm sure they can direct you. Bass Pro headquarters is in Springfield if your into that thing... Biggest one in the US. I'm 5 hrs away, enjoy!
I hear the local Brew Pub is decent, sound like there a few good beer bars based on the directory. I've yet to do more than a drive-by...
The brewery has lots of unbottled beers ("Thing 1" and "Thing 2" are rotating test beers that change periodically) and limited hours. Check to make sure it is open before you make the trip. It fills up quick when it opens, so go early to guarantee a table. There was at least 5 cars waiting for doors to open at 4 pm on my visit. The brewery is just off the downtown area, and lots of places with bar food and decent local tap lists within 6 blocks. Virtually everything in Springfield needs a coat of paint, but prices are pretty cheap, and good people.
Mother's is good. Skinny Slim's is a nice bar for beer as well as Patton Alley Pub. I have mixed feelings about the Brown Derby Wine Center. Springfield Brew Co is "ok" but definitely not memorable
Mothers is good, also check out White River Brewing Company and Springfield Brewing company. Check out the MudLounge downtown they have 30 taps and 100 bottles of rotating craft and artisan beer. Also check out Macadoodles not as huge a selection as the Brown Derby Wine Center but much better prices.
