So I just got to try Founders All Day IPA and Double Trouble and I must say, I prefer Ellisa and Endeavor over these. I hear all the hype about everything that is Founders, and while those beers were good, I don't think they were anything to write home about. Disclaimer, I haven't had KBS or any other Founders jewels (looking forward to Breakfast Stout in a few months) but a brewery should be defined by it's starting lineup IMHO. Point of the story is while I may still pick these beers up every now and then, St Arnold and my other TX brews need not be worried about the new competition. Anyone else get excited about a new brewery comming into The state only to realize they prefer what they already had?

I like All Day over Elissa, but prefer Endeavour over Double Trouble.... Saint Arnold makes good beer.. on a side note.. saw 5-17-13 Endeavour today...

Assuming all batches have the same bottle date (I know, almost impossible) I prefer Endeavour or at least put it up there with many other highly rated IIPA's.

With regard to Founders specifcally, I'm not a huge fan of many of their regular line up beers but FBS is one of my, if not my favorite, seasonal stout. If you like coffee, you won't be disappointed. Backwoods Bastard kicks ass as well. KBS is great but not worth the hassle IMO (like many other highly rated hard to get beers).

To answer your last question. I'm not a huge fan of Southern Tier, Sixpoint and to an extent FW's regular line up but I'm glad to have them and I do like many of their seasonals and one offs.

KBS is amazing, Backwoods Bastard is real good, Dirty Bastard is a very solid year round beer of theirs. All day IPA is actually one of their seasonals, not regulars. Try the Centennial IPA for another solid year round product.

Edit: How could I forget their Imperial Stout! Right up there with KBS for me.

If we're talking only IPA, ill take Elissa and Endeavour over All Day, Centennial, or Double Trouble any day. Founders stouts dominate SA though. Winter Stout doesn't hold a candle to FIS and they don't have a annual release like KBS. Bishops Barrel is a great deal, I just wish it wasn't a bar/restaurant only release.

Everything we have so far, i can do without.

When FBS hits, im all over that though. Not many stouts(imo) are as good as this one. (that are easy to get, well, at least it was easy to get where i USED to get it in NE, we will see if its still as easy in this new market.)

I do like St. Arnolds stout as well, just not as much as some others i can already buy.

Remember that founder's porter hasn't shown up yet for some godawful reason. it's a shame. brewery I would take all day? great lakes. yes, I'm a homer for them.

Hoppy beers aren't the best side of Founders. KBS, Breakfast Stout, Porter, Imperial Stout, and Backwoods Bastard are great beers. I love Pumkpkinator and most of the DR/BB series, but I'd take Founders if I had to choose every day. Double Trouble and Endeavor both fall off quickly and need to be consumed very fresh...I'd drink whichever is fresher...not that big of a difference between the two to me.

Call me crazy, but aren't the purposes of All Day IPA and Elissa quite different? And by that I mean, what each brewery intended their beer to be.

    All Day IPA- 4.7% ABV
    Elissa- 6.6% ABV

    According to BeerAdvocate.

Not to mention Ellissa is best on cask, significantly more so than some other beers, and is basically an ESB in that form. All Day is an incredibly bright low ABV sessionable offering. Agreed, can't really compare them. Centennial is a better comparison, and without a doubt a better IPA if you are looking for in your face hops. Though cause I am weird prefer cask Ellissa to either.

Endeavor over Double Trouble IMO, otherwise Founders all the way. One of my favorite breweries anywhere. No disrespect to Saint Arnold at all.

Screw chasing any KBS. If Eliot Ness and Dortmunder Gold showed up in Texas, I am buying those by the case.

I'm just one man with one opinion. And like I said I haven't had any of their stouts yet, and its no secret I am a stout fan over IPAs. Just making a simple point. And no one has made any comment to my follow up question at the end.

And I don't follow. So what if they have different ABV? I don't get your point.

One's sessionableish, the other might be a bit much.

Centennial over Elissa, but Endeavor over Double Trouble anytime. I gotta try Elissa on cask.

This thread is pointless, move on nothing to see here. Here is my reasoning. EVERYTHING FOUNDERS MAKE IS DAMN GOOD. saint average make a couple good beers and that is only recently.

As a few others mentioned, I did forget about Founders Imp Stout. Delicious as well.

Like others have said, Founder's hoppy beers are nothing special but the malty beers are delicious.
