Whole Foods is selling 11.2 ounce cans (4 pack) of St. Bernardus Wit for $10.99 (pedants enjoy my typo in title)

I thought this was a steal based on what the bottles go for here in NY.

Question, do you know if these cans are filled with the same exact beer that are bottled (I thought the bottles were conditioned, but am not certain)?

Lastly, would you buy this beer if it was brewed in at the end of February? I'm thinking it should be fine. I assume 8060 means the 60th day of 2018.

I walked away with Allagash Hoppy Table Beer, but will likely stop in tomorrow and pick this up. Just wanted some thoughts before I do.

If the bottles are bottle conditioned, I can't imagine that they'd change the process for the cans. Unless the cans are incapable of containing the same PSI than bottles?

At any rate, I'd buy those cans if I saw them and knew they were "fresh off the boat*", so to speak. That's a great beer, and maybe the very best of its style.

*Here's the Press Release (they should be fresh):

“We are thrilled to introduce a new format of the classic Belgian Witbier – St Bernardus Wit exclusively for the U.S. market. The 11.2 oz. cans offer greater exposure for one of the best white ales in the world,” said Jesse Mogk, National Sales Manager, D&V International.

Sounds like these bad boys are going to be the same as the bottle, time to get me some.
    Cheers

Great news! Not just because of the cans, but also because they are offering them at an attractive price.

I love that more and more imports are getting the can treatment. I had some Schlenkerla Helles in cans recently that rocked my world. Keep ‘em coming!

I bought a four pack a few weeks ago. I'd never had this beer prior, it's fantastic. If I could get some Weheistaphaner in cans I'd be excited.

Wow! Great price! Are you referring to a specific Whole Foods? Or would I be able to find it in all of them?

Whoa, outstanding! Let's see the Extra 4 next .

I wouldn't sweat that February date for a second. In fact, I'm sure there will be some cans in my very near future.

Very cool! Count me in. Smart move whoever decided to put this in 4-packs. Four 11.2 oz cans @ $10.99 comes out to $0.25/oz. A six-pack would cost ~$16.50 and my guess is that it would sit on the shelves collecting dust, like other imports in that price range do.

And this why I prefer breweries to use easily understood markings. For example:

    Canned on FEB 28 2018

It really is not too hard to do this. Some breweries (e.g., Sixpoint) do indeed do this.

Cheers to breweries that use easy to understand packaging dates!!!

    @Sixpoint

P.S. Spoiler Alert: I will be discussing a new Witbier this Sunday in the New Beer Sunday thread.

If it's not in 16 oz cans, it should be in 6pks.
