If this same beer was released by a hyped American brewery, they could sell it at $40 a bottle and it would sell out immediately (even though its not a stout or sour)

I don't think so, maybe if it was a spirit barrel. Its still a really high price even for a huped american brewery. I've seen Eclipse bottles sitting on the shelf for the same price.

I would have preferred a Bourbon vs Calvados Barrel, but still excited to try it. Guessing it will be a little bit cheaper the next couple of runs should they continue to do it.

Is it a calvados barrel? I thought it was new oak.

From the original post: "Matured 6 months in oak Calvados barrels."

    And Calvados is fantastic.

Solid, but the barrel was not as pronounced as I like. However I didn't exactly pour it down the drain. If you enjoy their quad you won't be disappointed.

$29.99 here, I may just have to get one just to have it in the cellar. . .

I walked into a local bottle shop last night prepared to buy a bottle for $25+.....they were selling them for under $17! So of course I bought two.

Call me crazy but I like regular ABT 12 better than the Oak Aged version.

Had it two weeks ago with a dry age ribeye steak at dinner. Was really hoping for more calvados to shine through. This isn't a bourbon barrel stout but I was hoping to get a lot more character from the oak and calvados. I picked up my bottle for $24 and expected a little more from it. Still a solid beer and I definitely enjoyed it, just nothing exceptional IMO.

That's not bad, nice if it is a 750ml at least.

    Cheers!

Picked one up for $27 at Charleston Beer Exchange last weekend. I'll probably cellar it for 6-12 months though.

Yeah, I'm sitting on mine at least until the holidays.

I haven't had mine yet, and I'm likely going to wait a while as well. But, worth pointing out that the markup on this one is due to the calvados aging; apparently, the barrel influence is pretty mild to begin with, and it's unlikely that age will do much to amplify those flavors.

I managed to get 4 of these bad boys in WI, between 23 and 26 per bottle.

Opened one to celebrate a new job. Remaining three are being cellared.

    So delicious. Loved it.

Appears like WI got a second drop of these, per the folk at Discount Liquor. So... maybe I get another soon!

I've had 2 bottles for a few months now, I wish I'd bought more when I could, I'm letting them sit in the cellar for a bit
