I'm going to the SCSU hockey game on Saturday; any beer advice? I'll miss Darkness at The White Horse by 2 days, which is a bummer; is anyone else in St. Cloud getting a keg? I read a while back that more places there are getting Surly; just don't know who has what etc.. House of Pizza? Thanks in advance for any advice!
For Pizza I've heard House of Pizza and Sammy's are the best..I've had Sammy's and would compare it to Carbones in the cities which I love....have yet to try HOP Try Boulders Tap House for the best selection of craft beers on tap I would think....right across the street is the original Granite City and their seasonals can be ok and their basics are fine too if you hit the right deals.....not elite by any means but a nice place to hang out with solid beer...by far my favorite Granite place...
House of Pizza for, well, pizza. White Horse for beer. They usually have a few Surly taps and also have good food.
Take a very short drive across the river to the Old Capital Tavern in Sauk Rapids - about 50 craft beers on tap and good food.
Thanks for the suggestions! At House of Pizza enjoying an El Hefe Negro right now. When the server gave me the beer list she said, "We have a lot of craft beers. You probably haven't tried most of them." LOL
This is one of my favorite experiences...especially when they try to explain a beer you know well. OK, I admit it, I often bait them just to hear how they describe it (almost all beers are either "darker" or "bitter").
The "secret" spot is the HOP in sartell. 20 craft taps, best happy hour, you can regularly get $3 pints of anything, other nights $3 Minnesota beers.
You should describe the beers to the server give them some idea of how they should be doing it! lol - great thread btw, I grew up an hour and a half from St. Cloud and will be living even closer within a month - never heard of a lot of these places and was always curious about the tap house as I enjoyed the great food at GC across the street.
Just looked them up on-line and am planning a stop next time through..beers look great..as for food do they have basic ol burgers or just all that fancy dancy crap....
I went to White Horse on Tuesday night, per recommendations from here. Great place and the owner is awesome! Reminded me of a Wisconsin bar.
I had a pulled pork sandwich and my better half had a rueben. I don't recall if they had burgers on the menu.
No doubt about this one. Wish I lived closer. Awesome happy hour prices like you said...I guess those same prices are all day on Sunday....good pizza too although I give a slight edge to Sammy's for just the pizza part
