SOHA is close to the zoo with a good selection of beers and decent food. I also suggest Dressels in the Central West end, it also is close to the zoo
The loop on Delmar is a great place to hang and close to the zoo...link below, look under the "explore" tab for restaurants and saloons. If you Goto the loop hit up 3 kings, good beer list If you go down town hit up bridge tap house or baileys range (40 local drafts)
The Good Pie just opened in the Loop. Good beer list and Neapolitan pizza cooked in a brick oven. Right next door is Cicero's. 55 taps.
