my friend's going there to visit family and she doesn't know where to begin with beer, beer stores or pubs. any suggestions would be oh so amazing. please?
I will recommend The Wine and Cheese Place since I work there - check out our blog for all the new releases http://thewineandcheeseplace.blogspot.com/ But for St. Louis in a nutshell - check out STLHops.com http://stlhops.com/st-louis-beer-guide/
Looks like Paul nailed it. As far as bars itap has 3 locations in STL and 500 beers and they also sell bottles Togo except the central west end location If they want 40 all local taps and great food id recommend baileys range
much appreciated. i'll send her in to visit/shop. can i offer you anything from Toronto? we actually have some pretty decent beer now.
Nice - very helpful info - I was searching for a good St. Louis guide yesterday and couldn't find anything on this forum, but was hesitant to ask a question I was sure has been asked and answered before. Just to get a bit more specific, I am going to be in town for work next Wednesday night and Thursday. I am staying downtown near the ballpark and wondering what destinations I should prioritize that are not too far from there. I don't know if I will be able to carry anything home with me, so mostly lookly for bars where I can taste the finest local and semi-local (e.g. Bells, which we don't get in Boston) products. I am inclined to try the Schlafly Taproom for dinner and maybe 33 Wine Bar for a drink or two after that. Is there anywhere else I should consider ahead of those or in addition? Any particular recommendations for beers to try, there or elsewhere? I enjoy IPAs, stouts, saisons, and sours. Also, in case I do end up checking a bag with some space - what is the best bet for a bottle shop in that vicinity?
If your by the ball park 4 hands is like 4 blocks away (I park there for cardinals games) Flying saucer is right next to the stadium. Taproom is great, I don't know if I'd walk there from the ball park though, kind of a long walk. If you Goto taproom urban chestnut is like 2 blocks away and they always have a large variety of German style beers on tap and a large beer garden. Not many bottle shops right down there , but all the breweries sell beer togo
I know Taproom is a bit of a hike, I don't mind a short cab ride or two. 4 Hands and Flying Saucer look like spots I need to check out, probably makes more sense to go to those spots instead of 33. Urband Chestnut I could see hitting for lunch if things wrap up early enough on Thursday, although Bailey's Range also looks great. Nice to see so many great options, thanks.
Per Google Maps, they're 1.0 mile apart. More than a few blocks. If you just want to try different beers in the downtown area, The Bridge has a a good tap list.
Urban Chestnut doesn't have much of a menu. Bratwurst and sausage plates, things like that. Their menu is here: http://urbanchestnut.com/food You should visit, just know what to expect if you go for lunch.
So, change of plans - I am going to the ballgame tomorrow night. Will try to hit 4 Hands and Flying Saucer pregame. Any chance of a decent craft option inside the park? I assume AB has total control of the taps, but go ahead and surprise me.
While macro swill takes up most taps, as it does at any sports stadium, there is plenty of opportunity to get Schlafly and some other breweries. For a detailed map: http://www.stltoday.com/entertainme...cle_749f8f9d-b18d-5b89-b0a1-b78e4508113c.html
That is great news - I assumed the worst in a company town like St. Louis, especially given the name of the stadium. Thank you very much.
4 Hands & Perennial sell beer to go? As in bottles and not growlers? I'll be in town for a few days next week. I checked out The Bridge last time I was in town and hit it up early as it seemed to get packed as I sat at the bar. Looks like I'm going to have to try Bailey's Range now too.
