It's one of those days that makes me embarrassed to be an American.

My ritual: stay as far away from the bars as possible. Attempt to avoid driving anywhere. Maybe hang out with one of my best friends, who's never touched a drop of alcohol in his life. What a stupid day.

Yes, this is extraordinarily insensitive. One of the nicest men I've ever worked with is an Irishman who wouldn't hurt a fly, but he almost broke out swinging the first time he was stateside and heard someone ask for that at a bar. He said asking for one in Ireland would assure that they'd kick your ass and throw you to the curb.

Head down to Key West and chug Guniness during New York Paulie's Guniness chugging contest at Irish Kevin's... It's really a great tradition.

Also the stuff that people drink as part of their 'rituals' I would drink pretty regularly, ie- Guinness, Bushmills, sometimes Jameson. I have a bottle of Bushmills 16 year old in my house, and when I'm out I'll usually drink Bushmills if they only have Budweiser etc.(Which will be the case where I'm going tomorrow). I like whisk(e)y a lot, and dont understand the stigma about drinking 'hard' liquor'.

Stay home. Stay off the roads. Hide. Drink a bunch of beer. Hide.

Last year I had a Harp Lager. I will not continue that tradition.

A couple of years ago we got to the Bell in Hand early on a particularly warm St Patty's Day. Sat on the windowsill and watched Boston walk by, less than 5 feet away from a bartender who would give us a nod as we got low. That was a good 4 hours.

One year I relieved a local restaurant of 2 pints of Guinness and a plate of corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. Yeah, I'd kinda like to keep that one going.

Guinness FES (maybe extra stout, too)
Any whisky, but leaning towards either an Irish or a lowland scotch
Huge pot of beef pot roast with cabbage and rutabaga

Start drinking green beer around 7:30 a.m. Throw up and pass out around noon. Nap. Repeat.
Oh wait, I'm not 18 anymore.
If I am out I will have a Guiness. Otherwise I will just stay home with a little corn beef and soda bread and watch State of Grace and listen to my Pogues records.

Two things. 1 green Miller Lite 2 pitcher full

Call it reminiscence, call it cheesy but I always have one green Miller Lite and always watch Boondock Saints on SPD, a truly great holiday IMO.

Depends. I like to stay home and hang but if my friends are running around they usually stop by wreck me with car bombs and I wake up fully dressed. Its a coin toss really.

Well, it's sort of in that it portrays itself as being Irish and its main brewery is in Dublin. But it's a British company founded by somebody opposed to Irish independence brewing a British beer style.

The Murphy's exported to the US is brewed by the owner, Heineken, either in the UK or The Netherlands.

For the Guinness stouts available in the US, while the company is owned by UK-based Diageo (formed by the merger of Guinness and Grand Met), the Draught and FES are brewed in Ireland (keg label snip below)

and the Extra Stout comes from Canada, brewed by Labatt ("Toronto" on the label) or Moosehead ("New Brunswick").
