I used to make a point to go out and party it up with green AALs and Guinness, but like Murtaugh said "I'm getting too old for this shit" so I now avoid bars like the plague. Can't be go hard and be useful at work anymore and I can no longer stand bars filled with drunk assholes. Really just another day anymore to this mutt. I'm just happy it's not during the tournament this year, so I don't need to remember to avoid sports bars that day.

There's been no English Army since1707 (or maybe 1601). The B&Ts were around over 40 years later than the Zulu Wars so there wouldn't have been much connection.
This was once true when the ancient Guinness ritual was carried out. There was a cask of fresh beer and a cask of aged which was carefully poured and blended. The present day stuff in the metal cans is the same anywhere it's sent to.

Should have said metal kegs. Many will think we're talking about the widget cans.

Get a beer that has a green label( ie. pliny, kilt lifter, sofie..), just not a green colored beer.! And I dont care if its irish either..then a irish-car bomb to cap it off.

This year I have vowed to drink a few Snake Dog IPAs in honor of the poor snake-handling Kentucky preacher that sadly recently died from a snake bite. From what I gather, no part of Ireland has these devil serpents, so both Protestants and Catholics are safe from this venom. Unless they are imported! I always drink at least a couple Guiness drafts. Cheers.

I like to get 3-4 bombers of Moylans dragoon irish dry stout. Drink at a friends or my house. I am 1/8th Irish and could care less about a drink being called a car bomb, it's not serious in any way.

Are there many US breweries that do Irish stouts? Out of curiosity. I've seen one or two mentioned in this thread but most people seem to to stick to the Guinness etc. Which is fine, I like Guinness and think it's a solid beer.

Yous should try some Irish craft beers though! I guess that could be tricky enough to find. So another question, what Irish craft beers would yous see in your areas (If any)?

We all have different tastes. Don't mind being in a "small minority" here. Too many people here follow the "large majority" anyway.

To echo what @TastyDelicousness said, regardless of weather, we wake up early and spend the day outside enjoying all things Irish; just like we would be doing had we gone to the Parade.

Last year we tried a "Black & Tan" type of mixing with others that you wouldn't typically think of: Stouts will always be the base (Irish, Chocolate, coffee, etc..) some of the concoctions we came up with were: Chocolate Stout & Wells Banana bread beer, Chocolate stout & raspberry framboise, Breakfast Stout & different IPA's, Guinness & different ciders (believe that's called a snake bite) etc...

All in all, I love St. Paddy's Day and look forward to it every year!

    Sláinte!

To each their own. We all have our own tastes and preferences. My endeavors contradict this apparently age-old "myth" that you have grown weary of hearing every year it would seem but YMMV... sorry to wax nostalgia for such a sore subject for you personally.

Enjoy your Brooklyn's on the 17th. Carry on sailor.

Or better yet, drink an irish craft beer! Or better yet, a Northern Irish one! Doubt you'd find any of those though haha

This isn't about liking Guinness or preferring it to another stout. It's about the myth that it's better in Ireland. That silliness periodically gets repeated here, generally by newer members. It's been discussed, debunked, and laughed at for years, but there's always someone new that posts it again as if it's common knowledge.

The Guinness draught in Boston and New York is brewed at St. James Gate brewery in Dublin, and is exactly the same as the Guinness in Ireland. One of the long standing jokes here when somebody repeats the myth is to respond that it's even better within a few miles of the brewery.:astonished:

I usually go to work and have a beer when I come back from it. Because even when I was younger and able to go out more I had no interest in dealing with other people on National Amateur Hour day. Now that I'm over 30, well...

I must be "new" as I haven't been on here for 9+ years...:slight_frown:
I could care less about your myth busting. My tastes are my tastes, however silly they may seem to you. Laugh all you want. With time, may be I will have gained the respect of my elders and be in on all of the long standing jokes with you old timers... :stuck_out_tongue:

Fine, then please explain objectively how it could possibly taste better/different in Ireland. It's the same beer and Guinness is obsessive with their quality control after their kegs leave the brewery, including storage and shipping. Their stated mission is to ensure that their stout never varies and they spend a huge amount of money to that end.

Rational facts mean little to those who want to believe a myth.

There is nothing to explain. Taste is subjective. I don't know what else there is to grasp here. I added my .02 to this thread and that somehow was interpreted as being incorrect. You are hellbent on scolding me for my penchant enjoying a certain beer in a particular location because it perpetuates your precious myth. No idea why you have decided to turn this thread into a personal vendetta. If you don't agree with my view, that's all you had to say. Or maybe this is your way of doing so...

The passive aggressive means by which you accuse me of being stupid, irrational and just generally incorrect...regarding my own personal preferences, are not becoming of the "old" guard.
