My wife's birthday is on Saint Patrick's day so we usually have family over either before, on or after that day. We make bangers and mash as the main course for dinner. I've got some Guinness and Harp in a little refrigerator in the basement for the occasion ...

That's abhorrent. As the progeny of an Irish immigrant, I'm embarrassed to hear that somebody's ignorance was treated with extreme violence. Throw the guy out, educate, don't "severely beat" somebody due to their own ignorance/stupidity. It's a stupid thing to say, but that's no excuse.

Anyway, I do nothing different. I grew out of going out and getting drunk in college. If I crack a beer it'll probably be some sort of stout, but that's also my style of choice. If I'm at the folks I'm eating corned beef, cabbage, some soda bread, and maybe some Irish stew depending on my Mother's mood that day.

Also, if we're talking about things not to do in Ireland...don't order a Black and Tan.

It sounds as though you simply do not like Guinness. Fair enough, but it doesn't make for an exactly unbiased discussion on the subject.

    Also you said above,
"If you had said something like "I enjoyed the Guinness I had in Ireland more than any I've had elsewhere", I wouldn't have said a word."

...Which was essentially the point of my post. From the way I was approaching the idea, there isn't a difference between thinking it tastes better in Ireland or saying you enjoyed it more in Ireland. All other statements should be taken along that line of thought rather than some attempt to quantify it being a better beer in a different country.
