What can easily be sourced as a fitting drink to raise
that isn't the big BLAND black nirogen filled ol' bollocks

Something Irish and easily sourced and actually worthy of raising a toast to a saint

all I can think at the moment is the adequate Marks & Spencer's Irish Dry Stout
or maybe trying to hunt down some Porterhouse Wrasslers XXXX Stout in spesh beer shops

    any ideas?

Try to hunt down Wrasslers XXXX Stout. If the bottles version is half as good as the draught I had at the Porterhouse then you're in for a big treat.

I've had the bottled Wrasslers and thought it was good stuff
but I don't think I've seen it anywhere other than beer order sites

I've got a shitload of FES in a box under my bed. But I suppose it's a bit a trek over to my house....

I quite enjoy the occasional Guinness actually.

I started drinking just in time to try bottle conditioned Guinness Original
and enjoyed a few years whilst FES still was

so I guess it is having tasted better Guinness
    and seen it withdrawn
and the introduction of "smooth" & "Extra Cold" **Shudders**

Yeah, I don't mind a pint now and again. It's also a good option in the kind of pub that only has shit lager....
