Yes folks, it's just about that time of year again. Late nights of watching nail biter OT's, bad beards, unlikely heroes and God like goalie performances.

So, let's put pride AND beer on the line.

Before I break down scoring, I'll establish the bounty - 110 ounces of 90+ beer (or a new beer that hasn't qualified for a rating, but trending 3.9 or higher) and ideally something local to you.

So scoring. It seems a shame that after the first round that half the field is excused. For this reason, I'd like to do something a little different this year.

Random draft generator to select your team, invert draft to pick an offensive player, and reverse/invert two more times to pick D and goalie. Basically, if you are 16th to pick a team, you are first to pick offensive player and goalie.

Team wins are 2 points, goals are one point each, goalie wins are one point, shutouts two points. Tiebreaker is total team wins first, then goals, goalie shutouts and goalie wins (if it goes that far down).

I am open to tweaking, but I don't need any Senator fans filibustering each suggestion (ha...ha..... ah, nevermind..)

Draft will need to roll pretty quick starting the last weekend of the regular season (if last person to pick a team selects a team that fails to qualify, last team in will substitute), each person who enters need to set up email alerts for this thread (until draft is over) so everyone has a fair chance to make their selection. We'll give an hour window to select before you get skipped. Open draft hours (when you are held to time limits) will be between 8 AM and 10 PM EST (figuring selections will roll quicker than we really need to factor for) for each round. If you are a west coaster, selecting first the next day, you can submit as early as the close of each round. Any "skip" can only happen after an hour passes per the time stamp on previous pick. Skipped person can select any time they want after skip time, just enter "skipped pick" in the post so the actual draft time stamps aren't thrown off.

Ok, I've already made this harder than what it should be, do let's just get 16 folks in, bounce out some thoughts, get everyone on the same page and get rolling. If you want in, post your declaration on this thread and BM me with your email address. First 15 to post are in.

Don't quite understand the whole new scoring system yet but I am still in.

I see the stakes have increased this year! I'm in!

BTW, what are the payoffs? 7-3-2-1? 4th place gets option?

I'll have to think out the stakes thing, but what you've scratched out is in the ballpark of what I've considered

I'll be in the middle of about a 300 mile move the first part of June so I'll be sitting out this year.

That's 6 so far including myself - ten more and we've got a game!

Sorry to hear that you have to sit out @clake but feel free to poke your head in and see if the new format goes well!

Looks like we need a few more to get started, 9 by my count. If I don't have that many folks chime in, I may drop the ounce commit a little.

I think your idea for a pseudo snake draft with 4 picks could make for some fun changes. I am a bit concerned about the 1 hour to make a decision type of thing could be off-putting to people, especially without a target start date/time. Typically, we see this as more of a scheduled live draft in fantasy sports. Perhaps it might be a tad bit too complicated?

Again I'm not criticizing, I like the idea after all, just trying to spitball possible reasons for limited interest. Now that basketball is over, maybe the interest will pick up.

Honestly, about a paragraph in I felt that I was making it pretty complicated but already committed myself mentally to my blabbering on! Maybe I can work on that piece as well, like just a team and a skater? Anything to make it more intriguing for folks bounced after first round IMO. Certainly up for any and all suggestions.

Still not quite there - Anyone feel strongly towards going at it with less than 16? I figure out of 7 folks, someone will pick the winner, but we can hedge with one skater for tie breakers. If we stay at 7, winner gets 4 boxes and 2nd gets one. If more folks drop in between now and Sunday, I can up the payouts incrementally, first, second.

Thoughts all? Want to just get the ball rolling with what we have by say, 5:00 PM Sunday? Random draft, pick a team, invert and pick one skater. That's how it would shake out.

Try to get 8 and do a snake draft for all 16 would be my suggestion. That would pay the loser of the finals two boxes.

Playoff history, especially post lockout, have shown us seeds 5-8 of each conference have a good shot at making the final.

Ok folks, that's the plan - one more person and each person drafts 2 teams, all snake style. Thanks for the suggestion!

Attention all folks - need one more player!!!

That's it folks, CLOSED! We've got 8 now, so we're going snake draft to pick two teams each. First place 4 boxes, second place 2 boxes. In the event that the winner has the runner up, well, we'll cross that bridge when we get there....

I'll run a draft generator pretty soon. I will need a person to receive the draft order when I do, just to verify that it's legit. @jpatag66 , you were last in so why don't you do the honors of verifying draft - please BM your email to me.

    Any questions, let me know!

    Yep.

*Edit - 90+ or trending that way (beer with not enough ratings, but it clearly kicks ass)
