Anyone have any experience using star anise extract? Looking to add a little to a stout I plan to brew.

How did it turn out and how much did you use for a 5 gallon batch?
When did you add? During boil, after fermentation? Secondary?

    Cheers!

Add at bottling/kegging time. Use sparingly, that stuff is really insanely powerful.

Just use regular star anise (Not extract), end of boil 1/2 oz - 1oz depending on how much flavor you want. Extracts are very concentrated and it's easy to over them. You are always better off using an actual ingredient as opposed to an extract.

Just a splash of Jegger would do the trick, if you're into that kind of thing. I don't know enough about the stuff to assure you that residual sugar won't ferment out. I'd add it to primary, wait a week, taste, and consider bottling it.
