Strong beer festival in Germany. Doppelbocks for the win. Who's interested? http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/19/travel/munich-beer-festival/index.html Forget Oktoberfest. This one looks better.
Looks like fun, I wish I knew about it sooner I'd have hopped on a train for an overnight. Schneider Weisse has a Starkbierfest going on right now as well, in Kelheim, and if I'm not mistaken, Bamberg has a Bock beer fest of sorts in October.
New guys who were in Germany often for work, and would hit Stakrbierzeit. They said it was less crowded and that they liked the beer better.
Except maybe for that crawl home... FWIW, the Salvator Keller serves up the Doppelbock year-round. It's a fun place to hit for a couple while walking Munich. Lesser known? I know of another fest, that's actually held in tents at the Wiesn grounds, that's probably even lesser known, less crowded, and damned fun. But I ain't sharin'!
