so I mixed 12mL of starsan in to 2 gallons of water and I tasted the beer right after sanitation bottling and my throat was burning. I don't feel like my beer is safe anymore..

Your concentration is slightly off. It should be .5 ounce per 2.5 gallons. I've come in contact with it many times and I've never had a reaction. But then again, we are all different and then again, I wasn't drinking it either. The beer will be fine. That stuff is odorless and flavorless. Unless you left half of the bottle filled with starsan.

If you mixed at the ratio you say you did and drained the starsan from the bottles, or even just poured most of it out, the burn wasn't due to the starsan.

He used 6 ml per gallon. The "correct" amount would be a little over 5.91 ml per gallon. The difference wouldn't be significant from an effectiveness or taste standpoint, and measuring the difference would be impossible by eyeballing the starsan graduated volume markings.

    Startsan is definitely not flavorless...

I suspect @CADETS3 meant flavorless in the beer when used as directed.

Sounds like he drank the koolaid regarding the dangerous chemical mumbojumbo the Cal EPA propagates (IMO...about the Cal EPA).

    Sorry about your beer!

If this helps, my bottle prep is to rinse the inside of the bottles with a mix of Starsan and bleach, then run them through the dishwasher without any soap. Then I dunk the mouth of the bottle in Starsan immediately before filling and capping.

I'd rather not have anything in my beer that doesn't belong there either, hence my over the top bottle prep. But unless you're chugging sanitizer, there's no safety risk.

    Cheers
