my wort chiller decided to spring a leak. By the time I got it u ear control probably 1.5 cups of hose water went into the wort. Start over? Thanks
If I didn't have any other use for the yeast that's ready to pitch, I'd probably go ahead and do it and see how it turns out. Ironically, the chemical (probably) in your tap water (chlorine/chloramines) that will likely prevent the water from introducing an infection might also cause chlorophenols in you beer. It depends on how much chlorine/chloramines are in your water. 1.5 cups may not be disastrous.
If it leaked into the kettle and the kettle was still full of hot wort at the time, I wouldn't sweat it for a second. If it leaked directly into your fermenter / cooled wort? More cause for concern, but still... just curse a bit, pitch the yeast and roll with it. Shit happens. It'll probably be fine. Unless it's not. Only one way to find out!
Even with this being a one gallon batch, as mentioned above there is only one way to find out. Go ahead and ferment away
Wort chiller may be a bit overkill for a 1 gallon batch. You could try putting the kettle in an ice water bath next time. Drops my 1 gallon batches to pitching temp in about 20 min and no additional equipment, cleaning, or risk. Just a suggestion.
