It depends on how soon you want beer vs. how soon you want to get your RIS going. You can do your starter over a few days then brew your RIS. You'll have to wait until your small beer is finished otherwise.

Btw, it was cool meeting you at NOLA IBF a few weekends ago.

Funny, I've always wanted to meet someone who frequents the home brewing forums on BA. @ghostinthemachine I'm assuming your doing this for the old raspy clone? I think I did 2 step-ups with wlp001 for mine. Second step up actually blew my foam stopper clear off the flask so I knew what I was getting into early on! Blow off tube is a must for this batch, but if you do a .75 L starter, followed by a 1.5 L in 1 weeks time that'll be enough to get that beast fermented down.

Good meeting you as well!! sorry we were in a batchelor party, we'd have stuck with you all night if we hadnt been.

I'll have a few weeks, I've decided to brew my amber for the clash of the carboys before doing the stout so I'll have some time to do a small batch. I use wyeast 1272 for my amber so that yeast cake wont work.
