Unless maybe if I price it higher than traditional growler fills?

I thought that too, but you don't want to scare people away with overly high prices. Even though you'll be in a smaller establishment, you still have to deal with customers who are used to certain market prices. Sellingsomething like growlers at a really high price might just create a negative perception of your pricing generally - true or not. I would avoid that.

You'd also have to consider how many extra kegs you have for when lines blow and how many you can generally store. If you can't store a decent number of extra kegs than that might prohibit you from growler sales at all. On one hand, if you have enough product its a good way to turn kegs over and to sell a product while not having extra people take up your limited space. On the other hand, if you're blowing through kegs and don't have extra kegs than you'll always be out of beer and the already limited selection of 6 or 12 taps will be even more limited - and your reputation will be negatively effected.

I think that it sounds as if you'll be selling some high ABV beers that will probably be 10-12 oz pours. If you did 32 oz. Growlers you might be able to get away with it since that only takes about 3 beers out of your keg. Say you have a big stout that goes for $7 in a 12 oz glass. You'd have to craft your price from that number, whether you simply multiply by 3, and add $5 for the growler or w/e.

Well I just met with the landlord. He is waiving my deposit since I will be doing work that adds value to the space. He gave me the key but isn't making me pay any money until we figure out what repairs he will reimburse me for. It turns out we are on the same page and he is more than accommodating. He is basically accepting all my original requests. I send my floorplan off to the Health Department for approval before their site visit.

Now you need to hope he doesn't read BA because you sort of slammed him earlier before you fell back in love.

The area I'm located in has the most well preserved Victorian Architecture in the US. Hence the Victorian Homes in the logo. Behind the houses is a silhouette of the Louisville skyline. I'm going to have her tweak the top as I don't like that much. I will probably add an iconic image of Old Louisville, St. James Fountain, where the Est. 2013 is located and change the wheat and semi circle emblem. Curious what you guys and gals think. I know I have to make it my own but feedback is appreciated.

    Honestly?

    1-it's too busy. That's not a logo, it's a mural.
2-are you going to be a brewhouse for sure? If not, don't put it on the logo. What about 'alehouse'? What you've got there is a pub, so what about that? Maybe 'public house'? Even 'tavern' would work.

I agree on the busy part. It looks great blown up on a screen, picture it on a hat. It will be a mess embroidered on anything because they can't get that level of detail.

Well I can tell you if you want folks to spend more there needs to be great bar chairs. Soft and with backs. a hard chair or no chairs is ok if your 21, but if your over 40 its not a thing that makes me stay long.

The bar/bottle shop down the street from me has brewers in every Monday to do tastings. It's great for the bar as it gets people in the door, some of whom will buy beer. It's great for the customers because the brewery reps are pouring free samples and giving away swag. It's great for the brewers because they get a chance to sell their beer. They also have a thing called beer school that they run once a month which allows people to learn in-depth information about beer - stuff like pairing beer with food, how hops are used to add flavor and aroma, etc.

With the vibe you are going for, you might want to partner up with some small local brewers and bring them in to do tastings and whatnot every once in a while. Tap takeovers are a great way to give them publicity, and if the beer is good, it will help build your cred.

One other random thought - if the codes where you are located will allow it, invest in a chalkboarded sandwich board for the sidewalk, if you are in a high foot traffic area. This spreads awareness more than you might think, particularly if you score a sixtel of something special.

I'll have to look into the price difference. I have to cut corners in certain places to keep costs down. It will be something I will do if I can afford but most likely will have to add later on. Also depends on the feel we are going for.

Great ideas. And I actually already had that sign board in the works. They usually look pretty cool and build awareness like you were stating.

Unfortunately no. But I do have permission to do a large patio, 600 sqft(or large in comparison to the bar area, HA!). I am going to cover a portion of it and have potential for heaters IF I make it to next fall.

Oh, and I got the other space as well. Its same amount of space so I'm at 500-600 sq ft.

Talked to City Planning plumbing inspector this morning. I basically have the go ahead from them which means I can get my health certificate as soon as I get my sinks installed. HE confirmed I didn't have to worry about ADA requirements because its an existing space that I'm not altering. SWEET!

This has also been confirmed with the City Code Dept.

I appreciate your honesty. I'm going to tweak some aspects of it but probably keep it mostly the same. Its gotten good feedback from the few people I have showed it to that live in the area. They love the way it ties into the architecture and the "artsy" feel of the houses. I do concur with the fact that hats and such will suffer but I don't really expect a ton of sales off stuff like that anyway. I had originally envisioned a simpler logo. However to set myself apart I wanted to go with the architecture feel and something different. So this gets me about as close to that as I could imagine coming up with.

I like it as well. You could always make a more simple one with just the name for hats and other merch if need be.

Really enjoying ready this thread, please keep us updated!

I'm not liking the "if" part of your statement. You should think of it as "when".
