This reminds me of one of the best bars I've ever been to, Wang Chung's in Honolulu. It's about the size of the venue under discussion (the photos on their web site are very creatively shot), but includes karaoke. Amazingly fun place -- it's packed 4-5 nights a week.

The atmosphere and the attitude of the people behind the bar can make all the difference.

I am curious is this a downtown area, redone? I assume you know your market?

Even if you like the busier, more detailed version of the logo, have the designer do a simplified version as well, and make sure you get a vector (EPS) format file for at least the simpler version. If you don't, you'll be cursing for years to come, every time you try to do an ad, glassware, or other promotional item with a scaled version of the logo and it looks like crap. (There's a reason so many logos are pretty simple – it scales to both large and small sizes really well.)

Also, I'd suggest finding out exactly what fonts were used in the logo, and writing that information down somewhere. It'll make it much easier to have anything else you do look polished and coherent if you can make sure you're using exactly the same fonts.

Great thread to read. My productivity at work has taken a serious dive today because of it.

To the OP, I suggest contacting Planetary Brewing in Greenwood, IN. They have a little more space than you are working with, but it is part of the brewery iirc. They are also only open thurs-sunday, and the hours are limited. They do not serve pints, just samples and then you can buy a growler or howler to go.

So other than being a completely different business model it is the same?

Logo not bad at all. But reminds me of something. I will post a pic once I find it.

Again I appreciate everyone's input thus far. I'm meeting with the designer today to put together some ideas and pick a few paint colors. I hope to maybe even have a visual for later. I ran into a snag with filing the business name that puts everything else on hold. In case you wonder, you have to have about 6 things concurrently sent into the city here to get their approval before sending off to the state to get their approval. And state takes about 45 days. Been rumored to have been as long as 60-90 days. I'm really hoping that is for places that have multiple licenses and other things that cause it to be kicked out a few times. Mine, I hope, is a simple 1 license request for a NQ-4 Malt Beverage License.

Most enjoyable thread I've kept up with in a while.
Just had to post so I could say I was involved in the event I ever make it in.

Received 3-D drawings from designer. And too be honest it just doesn't do it for me. I may just have to go with my gut on this one. I feel as though she is trying to make it a bit more chic than I wanted. I want a nice, cool place but I don't want it chic. I want people to feel as though they could come in in running shorts and a tshirt. I don't want it low end but I want it to fit the area and my clientele. I got some work ahead of me this weekend.
