This was a good thread on the old board, lets try and keep it going.

I was just at the co-op and saw 120 minute head for those interested (with world wide stout too). Lagunitas' Wilco Tango Foxtrot was new to me, but I was just there for some stretch-bread. Another time maybe.

My buddy went to a European market on Erie (headson dr. right off thompson) to browse their beers. Has anyone here been there? Anything good? He brought over a popular Lithuanian beer, but said there was a good selection.

I have heard about "Eupore" (I think that is what it is called) on Erie Blvd. but never been in, only due to the fact that it is at such an odd position that I always pass by it and then realize I missed it. BTW, Lagunitas WTF is a good beer, try it if you get a chance. Also their Cappuccino stout which was released a couple of weeks ago. Cheers!!!

According to their tweet, J. Ryans has Nugget Nectar

The guy who runs distribution of Sierra Nevada stuff in our area just tweeted that we'll start seeing cans (presumably Torpedo or PA or both) as well as Bigfoot within the week, so that's cool

The coop will have Bigfoot in on Friday. J. Ryan's has one of their strongest tap line-ups in recent memory, when I was in yesterday they had Nugget Nectar, 120 minute, and Noble Rot among others. Also had the latest Anchorage offering in the to-go fridge, but it was sold out before I left.

I like the way J. Ryans is creating a niche clientele by bringing in the "rare" stuff. Not to mention they charge $1-2 less per pint than the Tusk. Now, if they could just improve/update their food menu

No question about it. J. Ryans not only offers 7-10 brews that you would have to drive to Ohio or PA to get... but also they are more than reasonable with price. They are trying to position themselves as the spot that offers different/rare beers that you don't need to empty the ATM for. My opinion... best craft spot in Syracuse

Looking forward to that. They've got Noble Rot on tap there, too, but it was like $9 for a 12oz pour. Might as well buy the bottle, which I'm considering doing . . . I love farmhouse-y things, as well as the crazy elves in the back of Sam Calagione's head.

Hmm . . . who knows, maybe they have Belgians at a good price. Sounds like a good place to find some foreign brews, for novelty's sake if nothing else.

And yeah, echoing oh Captain my Captain, WTF is an excellent brew. Better than I had anticipated, and I always enjoy Lagunitas as it is.

Props to reviving the thread, by the way. Glad people found it useful—I was just thinking recently that I ought to start it up again!

I went to Europe yesterday to check it out. Aside from it location between strip clubs and a XXX theater, it was a nice place. They had two shelves and a cooler, mostly 500ml bottles or cans available. I'd never heard of any of the breweries, and only about 1/3 of the beers had an English description or style type. From what I could gather, mostly Ukranian, Polish, Czech, and a smattering of Austrian, Russian, and Lithuanian There may have been more nations represented, but I was at the limit of my geography.

I picked up two porters and a Bock:
    Black Boss Porter

    Zywiec Porter
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/623/1901
    Kozlak
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5502/27167

All told, about 7.50 for a little over 3 pints. Most expensive were some 5.99 500ml., and ranged to 4 for 5.00. Two of my beers were 1.99, and the third 2.99, but I don't remember which. The beer looked well kept; nothing expired except for a pilsner best before the end of February. Handful of different styles, but Eastern European flair for sure: Pilsners, Lagers, Porters, Bocks, mostly. These were big beers too, many 6-9%.

The rest of the store (there is in fact, more than a beer shelf) was what you might expect. Various foreign dry goods, a small deli with sausages, hams, and bologna, and a cake/dessert counter. They sold whole smoked salmon for about 8.00/lb, which is a real good deal if you have the patience to fillet it yourself.

Its worth checking out for sure, you'll have fun browsing, and I imagine you can't go wrong with their selection

I just saw that Galeville Byrne Dairy had a couple of beers from Jolly Pumpkin. This is the first I've seen from them in this area. Also FW Sucaba if anyone is interested.

Yeah the Syracuse Real Food Co-Op has Maracaibo Especial right now . . . which JPs did they have there, do you remember? Also, how much was §ubaca, do you remember? I'd love to pick up a bottle but Galeville's prices are very poorly marked and I am f'ing poor.

The §ubaca wasn't marked, of course. The Jp's were Calabaza Blanca (witbier) and la parcela (pumpkin ale). I'm not sure of the prices though.

Oh, that's cool. 12oz bottles, or bombers?

    J. Ryans had Ballast Point Sculpin 22oz bombers to go for $10.50. I bought two last night and they were fresh. The hoppiness was still present. An excellent beer.

BTW, the food co-op also had the Rogue XS Imperial Stout and Old Crustacean (18-19$ per bottle if I remember correctly).
