Haven't made the trip yet, but with any luck there will still be some Brett waiting for me when I do!

Any one know if Pliny the Younger is available in Syracuse/CNY?

bahaha...PtY is only available in February and Philly is the only city east of denver that gets any distribution on ANY RR period. PtY is also NOT bottled. Only a few select accounts get a 5 gallon keg. Lucky enough to try some in Seattle a few years back at Elysian Brewing. As for the Pliny the Elder, it is available year round but you will need to drive to philly or set-up a trade to get some (or have a nice friend in Colorado who brings you back a few bottles once and awhile)

Yeah, in addition to that, my understanding is that Elder is only available on draft in Philly—no bottles east of the Denver area*, and from what I've heard it's hard to get really fresh Elder even in the Denver area, or for less then $2-3 more than what you'd pay for it anywhere on the West Coast.

*the exception is Washington, D.C., which as an non-state district is not subject to the same rules and regulations of interstate commerce that all other states are. Basically, if you can get something to D.C., you can sell it, regardless distribution and regardless of the restrictions that Maryland, Virginia, or any other state are subject to. This is my understanding, at least, which is incomplete at best. What that means, however, is that bottles of Elder and other things that typically don't see the light of day beyond certain restricted areas of distribution wind up in D.C. They tend to be way more expensive than what they usually are and often out of date, but they show up from time to time. D.C.'s weird like that—you might find anything there.

Bad timing for another random question. I doubt many of you have been to Chucks (formerly Hungry Charlies) near the University/Marshall Street area:

...but I was at Wegman's today and Buffalo Bills Alimony Ale in the craft-6 section caught my eye:

Some subtle differences, but the same concept and execution. I was wondering from those of you with longer histories in Syracuse, or more beer/brewery knowledge, know of any link between the two? The only info I could dig up is that the brewery is in California, but this beer is remotely brewed in Washington.

May be a long shot, but thanks for any help fueling my late night curiosity

The image is actually from the musical "Sweeney Todd" so neither owns the image or has any relation to each other. FYI

As far as Pliny, you can fairly easily set up a trade on Beer Advocate. You want it fresh. In philly, Memphis tap room and Khyber Pass have it alot . Race St pub has it often for $6 a 10 oz goblet. Totally worth it. If you want to try a top notch quality IPA, The Alchemist HeadY Topper and Hill Farmstead Abner (both from VT) not only rival but, served fresh, surpass Pliny. Other top notch are Surly Abrasive, Kern Citra, and Ballast point Sculpin (avail in bottle sometimes in 22oz bottles at J. Ryans)

The 'Cuse is so underrated as a beer community/destination. Easily the best beer community in Upstate NY. Rochester and Buffalo are making a run, but they've got a long way to go.
