Noooooooooooo! None of us are snobs! We're just well educated beer enthusiasts.

I didn't participate much around here for the past year or two just because I simply got tired of writing reviews and felt like I had nothing useful to say. But I've stuck around. I can't really see myself leaving unless I quit drinking and forsake beer entirely. I love having real conversations about beer instead of just ticking them down as numbers with easily dismissable adjectives for cliquish internet clout and fanboying. *ahem*
I love beer as a beverage, as a phenomenon, as a culture, and as a community. This place is like a second home.

Are you on Facebook? There's a group called "NY MUSHROOM HUNTERS" and it's a really neat thing.

I'm in about thirty foraging and mycology groups, although not that one. My experience in them generally is why I like BA, why I made that statement. We're a great community, a load of great, accurate information, and help in all the peripheral aspects of the craft beer "hobby". I'll check out NYMUSHROOMHUNTERS, thanks, it might even be the new page of the club to which I once belonged.

Nothing wrong with taking a break from writing reviews. I took a break a couple years ago because reviewing felt more like a chore than a hobby. Eventually I wanted to get back to doing reviews and I enjoy them again.

I've come back around on writing reviews occasionally if I feel inspired to do so. But you're right--you do it too often and it feels like a chore. I got burned out on it real bad.

I would certainly be reviewing beers if I could get some beers to review.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I'm a long time member that left for a number of years due to health reasons, and to avoid temptation. But I stay because BA has a comfortable feel, and the reviews are thorough, and for the most part reliable.

Untapped is convenient, but cold and impersonal.

That other beer forum is owned by Budweiser....so no thank you.

I'd say I get hit with this title maybe 50/50 times when I start really talking about beer with someone new. That's generally the moment I point out that I'm drinking PBR, or they see the amount of Modela in my fridge.

Kinda going thru this myself here recently. I still enjoy writing, but not to the degree that I did before. Couple that with how similar so many beers are, and how many beers are being released locally (and the lack of local support on this site) and I get even more tired of adding new beers, updating photos, reviewing, etc. etc..

To strike a balance, I've found writing on a Saturday / Sunday to be a good time for me. I generally spend an hour or so cleaning on Sundays, which is when I'll pour a beer, and type up some notes in between chores. By the time I'm done with my chores, I'm hitting submit on my review. Conversely, I'll 'pregame' with a review on Saturday nights. It offers me some time to sit and really enjoy a beer before I head out and drink cheap beer the rest of the night.

Are there people that really care about their "karma" points on a beer website? They should re-evaluate their values in life.

I've stuck around for 20+ years because I've found the opposite of the above situation. While there were some ups and downs in the mid 2000's, this site has turned into a great community of beer loving folks. Even though I don't contribute much, it's my oasis to turn to in a very stressful life of raising three kids, job, all that shit. I'll stick around for as long as I can.

Stayer for a few reasons. First, I do find comfort in the familiar names and folks. Secondly, I'm an OCD stat person and I can't stomach the idea of orphaning my stats. Last but certainly not least, I am involved with several Fantasy sports BIFs through BA, not wanting to leave that bit of camaraderie

Came for the review section, got laughed off the board when I asked a serious question about light beers in 2010 (another account). I didn't start posting again until WBAYDN started up and reluctantly threw my first photo up around 2014.

It was a blurry Goose Island Honkerfest in a fiestaware glass.

I have always liked to write - it was my strongest subject in school. Extra credit for short stories and editorials.

Got a little more involved than I should have on BA - I rub people wrong because I'm pretty much a no bullshit type of guy and tell it like it is. Hurts the feelings of some gentler folk on here and they tend to swarm like bees and force you out the door. So... no, I can't ever recommend this community to people I talk to IRL. However I still like the format and not everyone here is a dick obviously. Most of the cool folks I associate and trade with on the regular aren't even active members here anymore and for similar reasons but I wouldn't trade their friendships for the world.

Having been burned again (and much worse) like I was in 2010, with very similar elitist and groupthink attitudes, I've washed my hands in general of it and now I'm pretty much here for the same reasons I started - the review section. Occasionally I'll post a picture or whatever, but it's had its run for me. Especially with the newfound censorship and whatnot, nobody needs that.:sunglasses:

Yep, I had a similar experience back then on here to. Except I "admitted" to liking wheat beers and got flamed by half a dozen people. I didn't leave as a result, but yea, it could be pretty toxic back then.

I'd say that you must be in need of a,
    "E -double E double are you-N-beer run
Be -double E double are you-N-beer are you-unn
All we need is a ten and five-er,
Car and key and a sober driver,
Be -double E double are you-N-beer run"
