Where would I be able to find great local beers for purchase around Mission Beach? I'm in town for four days, so some leniency in terms of time, but I'm at the behest of others as far as travel.

Ideally, the plan is to check bottles in my suitcase. Plan B is shipping home.

The bottle shops in Mission Beach and Pacific Beach tend to suck. I think your best bet is to hop the bay inlet and head to Ocean Beach and go to the Olive Tree Market. It's a couple of bus rides or a 3 mile walk.

Can also check out The Keg Guys on Rosencrans, which looks like one bus. Or take a bus to the trolley and hit up bottlecraft in little italy.

Agreed, PB/Mission are not the best for shops, and Olive Tree is a good call. Try PB Express or Crest Liquor on Ingraham (I know PB Express gets and sells out of Pliny/Blind Pig on either thursdays or fridays, if they get it at all). Also try Trader Joe's for a decent (but limited) selection of cheaper local brews...

Great. I will have a car to travel. I think my friend (with whom I'm crashing on Sunday) lives us near UTC. Any thoughts there or is Olive Tree my best bet?

UTC is terrible in basically every way. And I'm not just talking beer.

For beer, the Whole Foods there is reasonably good.

last visitor started a thread, read all the suggestions in the thread and then went out and bought all the beer. No beer to be had.

Bristol Farms has a decent selection of beer, too.

I'd argue that the grocery situation in the UTC area is pretty good - within a mile radius you have Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Ralph's, Von's, and Bristol Farms. Other than that, err..., hmmm..., what you said.

if making it into OB to hit up olive tree, also stops would be newport market, chris' liquor and deli, and littickers liquor/ob quikstop(right across the street from each other). chris' has been stepping up their rare bottle selection lately(scored bcbs there last week), newport market and littickers both have really good selections, and ob quickstop has an amazing shelf of bottles that are all buy on get one for 5 cents(solid selection). living in OB im suprised at alot of the things im finding all the time. also all these places are in a 10 block radius of each other AND Pizza Port!
