Wired an STC-1000 earlier this week and used it with a space heater to keep temp up - everything worked fine. Now I hooked it up to the fridge to hold at 16 C, and discovered that both outlets are on the "heat" circuit.

I wired it exactly like this:

My understanding was that the right outlet here hooked up to 8 would be cooling and the left outlet would be heating, but they come on together and only if the temp is below the set point, so it can't cool. Do I need to wire it differently to get the outlets split?

I can move my Ranco over to the fridge if I have to but then I'd need something on the chest freezer. Is it possible to switch heat/cool modes on the STC so that I'm cooling instead of heating?

Ugh... just found another wiring diagram showing the tab I need to break to separate them. I'll try it again after I give the compressor some time off.

Is there an easier way to break off that tab than snipping, twisting, and yanking on it for five minutes with needle nose pliers.

Work the tab back and forth with Needlenose, or cut it with a pair of side cutters.

Broke the tab on the "hot" side of the circuit, left it on the "neutral" side. Still no power to the cooling outlet. Is that right or do I need to do something differently?

Is your cool light coming on at all once the temp rises above the set point?

Yes, but its blinking if I recall correctly. I set up the ranco and left on an errand, I'll check when I get back home.

Blinking means its in Time Delay. You can adjust the time delay from 1-10 mins. I wouldn't go below 5 mins so the compressor doesn't short cycle.

Derp, I think I figured it wouldn't be on the delay if it hadn't turned it off yet. Does it always start with a delay when you first power it on?

Does look like it's working fine now, thanks for the help.

Yes, the delay is set to 3 minutes default from the manufacturer. You can adjust it under the F3 setting.
