Definitely still love Guinness (not the draught Guinness so much, but definitely the regular Extra and especially the Foreign Extra).
There are a few other stouts around that are decent enough, but in the end Guinness still defines stout.

I loved Guinness until I went to Ireland. It tastes so much better their. Every time I have one now I'm disappointed.

This is the whole point of the way it's brewed - it's intended to be (and regularly is) drunk all day without undue consequences. The last thing you need for this is high alcohol or massive flavour.
They keep very quiet over the fact that Arthur Guinness was a failed ale brewer so decided to try porter. This meant bringing in a porter brewer from London to do the work............Guinness is only Irish in the sense that the brewery is in Dublin. And they were looking to move at one time anyway.

Personally I avoid it because I can never forgive them for the monstrous crime they committed on beer-nitro.

This makes about as much sense as saying that the Lil Sumpin' Sumpin' here (yup, we get Lagunitas in Ireland now) is the same as what you'd drink in Petaluma.

That's wrong for one reason: freshness.

Ireland turns over a roughly pint of Guinness for every man, woman, and child in the country every week (i.e. about 1/3rd of the average annual consumption of 173 pints.)
Any pint you find in Ireland is fresher than every pint in the US.

There's a lot of myth-making/BS with Guinness - the two-phase pour, the "same since 1759" stuff.

But why wouldn't it taste better closer to the source?
    Most other beers do.

I do light Guinness, but with left hand milk stout nitro nearby I would rather grab that!

Guinness Foreign Extra stout blows away a lot of other RIS that get more hype. I will also drink the Extra Stout from time to time, regular Guinness Draught has a decent flavor, but needs more body.

It's a last resort, but not in a bad way, only if there's just absolutely nothing else. Still love it when I do have though.

Ever since I went to Ireland, the Guinness on this side of the pond doesn't come remotely close to how good it is over there. I prefer to pass on it here.

I am a hop head through and through but sometimes a nicely poured Guinness really does it for me.

It just reminds me so much of Dublin, and Dublin is my favourite city, so yeah, once in a while I grab a 4 pack

Before moving to the US I drunk Guinness almost exclusively for five years, on average I think it is better in Ireland. It may be a freshness issue.
Also some of the worse Guinness I drunk was in Ireland, it was usually in the more busier bars. They must be terrible at cleaning pipes, and know that there will be a steady line of people to drik over priced swill while not being able to hear themselves think.

I have to agree with that. If I don't know anything else in the bar, or I don't like the options you can always count on a Guinness. I will go one step further. As far as a good, no frills stout it will always be king in my book.

I don't drink it but interesting sidenote it's been brewed since 1759 and in that year Arthur Guinness signed a 9000 year lease on the property...The seller probably thought he scored the deal of a lifetime.

I prefer Beamish or Murphys. Having said that I can think of plenty of American stouts I prefer more, so NO.

No, not anymore. Fortunately, there is always a better choice! Even at Irish bars...

Only under duress ... ie. when there's nothing better available, stout-wise.

(Guinness Foreign Extra is the exception to the rule, but your average pub generally won't have that option, sadly)
