Stir plate question

    how "vigorous" should that little guy be spinning? do i want a full vortex or just a little action on the surface? thanks

    I run mine so that there is a visible and persistent dimple on the surface.

    No need to go full on, "sink the Bismark", whirlpool of death type vortex. You're wanting to keep the yeast in suspension, not centrifuge them. As others have said, a noticeable dimple works.

    No need for the wide open toilet spin.

    I do it until I have a bit of a cone on the top, and let it ride.

    I'm in the middle too. If you spin full-bore you're more likely to kick the stir magnet off the center. You want agitation so that yest are constantly in suspension. It's probably a gray term and I don't believe that was covered in Yeast.
