I would like to add that they probably got some feedback about people calling for it, with the store having no idea what or who it was from. Also, it is compounded with the fact that most people can't spell it, at least those on the other end of the phone. Then, you had to say that it was from Stone, but not from Stone. Calling and asking for it was like pulling teeth. I wonder if they will put out any really different styles compared to the Stone offerings, I hope so. In the end, this is kind of just another source of Stone bombers, like their collaborations. They are already so prolific, I wonder if this will cut into the unique Stone offerings throughout the year.

Why do they have to hop this up a lot? Sounds perfect without it

Maybe and maybe not. I know my local stores said that on the invoice they received with the beer it said Stone.

    Sounds.... interesting.

I find it funny that stone has finally owned up on it and put their name on it. Pretty interesting why now...

Haven't had Grapefruit Slam yet, but Necropolis sounds more interesting. Might just hold onto my money for it.

Yeah, that was probably when it came in, but when I was calling around people had no idea what I was talking about. We have some good bottleshops, but they don't have too many employees that have a beer focus, and if they do, they don't usually know about upcoming releases. Then, you had this one coming out of nowhere. I mean the beer is everywhere in MD now, but trying to find it when it first came out was hard. Hopefully, this won't be the case with this next release.

Neither of those sound terribly good to me...but hell I'll give them a shot I'm sure. :grinning:

They already have the Stone Cali-Belgique, this sounds like the same thing except a higher abv and bourbon whiskey barrels. This may be the first time I've ever thought Stone might be trying _too_ hard. But, that being said, they're stuff is killer, so I may have to try one of these before passing judgement that's its just a gimmick.

I had a customer call me and ask for a case of the Stochasticity Project, and all he had to say was Stone Grapefruit beer, and I knew what he was talking about. Took me a few practices to say it right myself. Honestly though, it's such a unique name, how could someone who works the beer section not know exactly what you were talking about, even if the name is hard to pronounce?

Yeah they might as well own up to it. It wasn't even too hard to figure out it was a Stone project as the gargoyle was visible on the label if you looked hard enough.

I'll wait for reviews on this one first, actually...

I love that Stone started with the idea of shaking up the general population's opinion of what beer is, and now the craft beer community can't wrap their heads around what they're doing. Everyone saying "this is going to be terrible" are just doing the marketing work for Stone by kicking up discussion about a beer that's not even out yet. I'm going to buy this for the same reason I have both Crime and Punishment in the cellar: if anyone can do something totally unorthodox with beer and make it amazing, it's Stone.

disliked the grapefruit one. too sweet (yet bitter), but liked the grapefruit pith finish.

i like BBA BSPAs... i'd add in a "but stone's record with BSPAs" + a slight jab at their belgian yeast strain, but the wine barrel aged BSPAs from the vertical epic were really phenomenal. we'll see on this one.

happy to hear they're making a quad. VE09 (far from a quad, but it was a dark belgian ale, kind of mixed with a porter) was excellent. stone does the belgian strong dark ales right, i wish they would revisit them rather than making saisons or other "lots of american brewers do it better" styles. stone crushes huge beers like double bastard and IRS, but they need to quit the belgian pale ales or saisons IMO.

in short (rambling), bring back VE09.

    ---

edit: stone + big beer + special b malt = the way.

I was really expecting more from the Grapefruit Slam and it just didn't deliver. I personally won't be buying anymore of their hype. Just didn't taste any grapefruit at all. I feel like they can just put something on a bottle even if it has little or none of it and I get duped every time cause I want to taste a nice new beer but they don't deliver. I am pretty OK with trying tons of beers and being disappointed but this was one I expected more from. What can you do?

Different people do have different palates. I thought the grapefruit did a good job of coming through strongly while still balancing with the blast of hops.

Yah we all have different pallettes and it may have had something to do with what I drank earlier. I was just hoping to get some real heavy grapefruit which might have been unrealistic.
