I sent my brother a package of beer this week. Shipped it Monday via FedEx. Tracking says it was delivered in Washington DC on Wednesday. It says "left at front door." I didn't require a signature. My brother says the package never showed up. It would have been outside his door a couple hours before he got home. I suppose it's possible it was stolen, though he has never had a package stolen before. Anyone ever have something similar happen? Is it certainly stolen, or has anyone ever had a FedEx experience where it said "delivered" on tracking, but it really wasn't? Possibly lost? Any feedback on what to do here, if there's anything I can do, is appreciated. Thanks!
Yup, call FedEx. See if they can track down and talk to the driver to recall where he may have dropped the package off. If they asked what's in it, tell them mystery gifts from your brother. If you're lucky, whoever got the box will call FedEx and they will pickup and redeliver. This happened to one of my outgoing shipments. If it in fact was stolen, it's imperative of you to let your future trade partners to make their shipments "signature required". Once the box is marked "delivered" and nothing was broken, stolen packages are generally the receiving trader's responsibility, especially with the knowledge that it could be stolen.
I'd bet on wrong delivery address most likely. My next door neighbor has received at least 3-4 of my packages over the past few years with a few others going to mystery locations somewhere else in the neighborhood I assume, where the good Samaritan came by and dropped it on my porch later.
I had a delivery guy transpose the street numbers and leave it at the number closest the what he came up with. It's really nice to honest neighbors!
Happened to me last month. Sent a gift box and the guy was home all day. It showed delivered but never was. Spoke to FedEx, the box was never found though. I got my money back but the box was a loss.
This is why I almost always now ship w/ at least an indirect signature required. Haven't lost a single box since I started doing that.
