    2016 marks 20 years of brewing big, bold beers and we’re celebrating with the Stone 20th Anniversary Encore Series, bringing back a slew of beloved beers that came and went…but were never forgotten. See all of the rereleases at Stone20th.com.

    For our 14th Anniversary Ale, we traced our inspiration to British IPAs of the 1800s, creating an imperial, nay, Emperial IPA using all-British hops, malt and yeast. We even adjusted our Southwest U.S. water to summon that ageless IPA chemistry and royal sense of place. Cheers to an Encore reign for this mighty British-by-way-of-California-West-Coast IPA.

    Tasting Notes: Assertive fruit character and earthy, herbal hop spice followed by a dry finish.

    This is a great beer. Sure, it's not an extreme hop bomb or a juicy, hazy IPA, but it is wonderfully balanced and complex for a double IPA. And balance and complexity are two things that go unappreciated on this forum, hence no posts from people who have tried it. But I thank Stone for rereleasing this beer, because I love a good English-style IPA, and there are far too few available.

    For a good English IPA, age a Goose Island IPA in a garage for about a year.

    Yeah this thing was like a spicy rose fruit buried in the earth for a year! If that helps... really wonderful beer from Stone. Impressed by their IPA lineup for their 20th! I will always support Greg and the rest of the crew as long as I stay sane! Happy I got to visit Liberty Station in September! Cheers, Jake! Oh yeah and those fried olives...

    I thought I would be disappointed going into this one, but rest assured, this one does not appoint. Despite the use of all English hops, there's still a ton of citrus character with a big bitter finish. Even the malts aren't as sweet as I was afraid they would be. In fact, it's even worth revisiting. I might buy a couple more bombers.

    Imagine a stronger version of Stone IPA, with some herbal, earthy notes, but the same bitter, citrus finish. That's how this tastes.
