I suspect many of those places will be showing up with "rarities".

After the latest Sour Fest, my faith in Stone events has returned.

I do because it's a 10 minute walk from my house.

    zzz. . . .

Never been. Would like to go. . .maybe one year. Would be nice to see some out of state guest brewery's showing up. Like Firestone Walker Inventational Fest. Cigar City, O'Dells, Bells, Alchemist, etc, etc.

I haven't been since XXII I believe, but I don't ever remember any breweries bringing anything "special." Has that changed? I remember back in 2007 or 8, the biggest draw was Maui Coconut Porter.

I remember that too. People lined up halfway to the parking lot in the North County heat for a can pour.

I don't think Stone Anni parties have ever been about rarities or finding anything particularly out of the ordinary. It may have seemed that way at one point, and I can remember a time when I was more excited about the event, but I think that was largely because craft beer wasn't as ubiquitous as it is now (even in SD), so seeing some of those "tasty but not out-of-distro or one-off" drafts in one place was interesting enough at the time to be an attraction.

Probably still fun, but I wouldn't go to the regular session expecting something rare, and I wouldn't pay the VIP session prices for the rarities they do have.

Or sampled on tap at craft-centric and taprooms all over the state? For much cheaper?

From Stone when I asked about the rare tap list. It is overpriced but I'll hit up alpine and swing by Alesmith to pick up bass l, etc.

Since rare beer's been sold out for months, we thought rather than wave a list of beers in the faces of those who didn't get those tickets won't be able to sample them, we'd keep that under wraps til the day of.

I thought last year's Rare Beer list was pretty damn good, as good if not better than some of the Stone festivals. Since it's a charity event, they are able to get beers that not distributed in San Diego. Hopefully it's worth it for those you who bought tickets. I'm hoping they'll let me in.

We're ready to go. Never not had a fun time (Been going since the 9th anniversary), and the last couple with the all access passes have been awesome.

My liver is now pickled ... Er ... Prepared now that we've Survived Ballast point's 17th anniversary fest at the Maritime Museum.

Has it always been in the same place? How's the crowd level? Annoying, or is it pretty easy to get around?

It was at the original brewery for several years, then moved to a space next to the current brewery location (while that site was under construction), then moved to CSU San Marcos a few years ago. It can get very crowded during the afternoon session. The space at the current location has expanded over the past few years and that has helped. You certainly can find a spot to stretch out. There is plenty of room in the rare beer section. Generally, chairs in the shade are snatched up quickly.

this'll be my first time going, does anyone know if they replenish/have backup kegs for session B? For example, if barrel aged macadamia porter kicks in the morning is session B out of luck for that beer and other stone whalez? or do some of these just not kick until sometime in session B. Thanks.

My friends are going, and they're very excited. I'm trying to have them use their 15 tastes wisely.
Can anyone point out where habanero Sculpin will be available this weekend, outside the fest?
Also, what's the availability of Stone 17th Anni brew like around SD?
They just want to try each (a pint or bomber), not hoard it.
    Thanks!

IIRC, it was sort of the opposite – there were some beers that were only pouring during session A, and some beers only pouring during session B. Kind of weird.

Excited for the festival. Still haven't seen a rare list but it has always been really good and the area is a lot better place to hang out then the regular session. Has anyone figured out an efficient and affordable way to get there and back from the Point Loma/Old Town area? The Coaster/Sprinter route gets you there an hour late. Brewery Tours of San Diego has a pretty good option for either of the session but if you do the rare you get there at the beginning of A and leave at the end of B which is a pretty long day. Any other great options I missed?

I saw habanero sculpin available at ballast point last weekend. You can find 17th anniversary bombers at the Escondido location. I was there yesterday and the fridge was stocked.
