Funnily enough I had been planning all week to open one of my coffee eclipse's tonight with my wife - I'm starting to get worried the coffee flavor will fade or whatever...and lo and behold it's on the list for tomorrow. The other beer I was planning to open up was the Almanac Heirloom Pumpkin...thwarted again. Ah well - can't wait for tomorrow!

No not rare, but good. It is around town or at the brewery, which is now open.

I had an great time. Stayed for Session A and B. Other than Beatification and a couple others, I thought the regular section was better than rare beer, as that is where all the IPA's were. Awesome event.

Anyone know the guy (BA handle) that was from Atlanta, wearing a hat and had a beard?

Not that we didn't enjoy the heck out of the rare beer area (because we did, other than people saving seats for non-existent drinkers in the shade), but I think Mother Earth Sin-Tax, Stone's Tiger Cub Saison and Maui's Brown were our favorites of the "never had before" category

Some of the chile beers may have been excellent, but after having habanero, jalapeno, chipotle, thai chile and ghost pepper beers at Ballast Point's fest last week, I was looking for other flavor notes this weekend.

Speaking of other flavor notes, what was that Lost Abbey Mystery beer?

I think it was called Almost Legal. Sour aged in tequila barrels.

Momi Hiwa...that shit tasted like coconut BT, best beer of the day for me. 17% and you could not tell.
Heirloom pumpkin BW gets an A.
StoneWall Ale is still tasty, for being, what, 9 years old?

had rare beer/all access pass, was my first time going, and had a blast. seemed like a well run event from my point of view. really nice surprise that RR brought Propitiation down. It was one of my top beers of the day along with Beatification and Momi Hiwa. Excited we were able to try BA coconut macadamia porter and SN BA maple stout. All in all however, I think best beers of the day were the Box Set Tracks at Lost Abbey for breakfast before the actual anni. Glad to have met some cool BAs from Arizona at the abbey and then back at the stone event. cheers

also does anyone know what happened to the batch of cuvée that was supposed to take the place of the lost abbey mystery beer in the rare area? The sign said out shortly after the event started. I had heard it was something about some technical errors with the keg or something or other

ah gotcha. When dr bill said it was a batch of cuvée that's drinking very well I was hoping it was an earlier vintage so I'm not too bummed on missing it. Thank you for the info.

Damn, I passed on Momi Hiwa because I heard it was too sweet. I guess I'll have to look for it in the future.

Early on, the lines in the rare section were very long. The hiccups were worked out and things went smoothly.
8th and 9th Anniversaries drank very well.
StoneWall was my favorite. Time to pull my bottle out of the cellar.

Momi Hiwa was for sure sweet but still enjoyable for me. Became a brown sugar bomb as it warmed up.

Tried this at LA yesterday. It's a strong brown (very strong) brewed with agave and aged in reposado tequila barrels, blended with sour Avant Garde and lime juice.

Ah, this explains why I was involuntarily flapping one arm like a chicken wing after every sip.

Oh cool. Thanks for the details. Didn't know any of the specifics. It was def better than I expected.

Off topic, but do u happen to know exactly what funky barrel #96 was that LA served at stone sour fest?

Per the Lost Abbey brewer with the cool handle bar mustache, it was a Barleywine brewed about 9 mos ago, aged in tequila barrels, they added lime juice, and soured Amigo Lager, which I believe goes by the name of mellow yellow.
