This beer is everything I expected. It's clearly labeled what it is. A low ABV milk stout. So Stone can make good low ABV non Hoppy beers after all. I could literally drink this in the morning as a coffee replacement.

Wow, this was a real miss for me. A stout without a head is like getting head without a head. The beer had no personality whatsoever. First Stone brew I disliked. I so wanted a session stout to love

Interesting - six pages of mostly positive commentary on a 4% coffee milk stout released in the dog days of summer! Maybe I'm not as much of a contrarian as I used to think, but I will most definitely pass on this one yet will read this post with curiosity to see what I'm missing... Love the enthusiasm though! May even pick up a single just to try if they're still around this winter when I'm looking for some relief from my ever increasing stock of high ABV thick heavy Russian Imperials...maybe part of the niche Stone is looking to fill...

FYI for Boston locals - saw a few cases at Marty's in Newton today so looks like they're around.

I'm pretty happy with the beer, myself. Yes, it's lighter/thinner in body than one associates with "stout" these days.

But it's a 4 percent milk stout... it's GOING to be light.

I've found pretty enjoyable while it's still hot out.. and I didn't feel that odd drinking one while watching College Gameday yesterday. Pretty perfect beer for the late morning/early afternoon drinking when I'm not interested in something lighter or hoppier.

Would be interesting to see if they could mash higher/shorter and get a little more body in the beer, and make it drink more robust.. But, they'd need more grain to get back to where they are now, and they are in the market to make money like everyone else.

    Solid beer, for sure.

The store I went to only had 3 singles left. I picked one up to try and I also picked up a bomber of the 18 anniversary. I don't know which one I'm more excited to try, jk I'm lying. I will try both with an open mind. Cheers.

Coffee stouts are my happy place, but I wasn't sure to expect from a 4.2%. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Roasty nose, big coffee flavor, balanced, not bitter and a nice mouthfeel. Home run - will buy more.

It's 4.2...it is excellent for what it is. I really liked it as a session coffee porter/stout, no matter what you call it

I don't mind light...it is 4.2%, but I do expect flavor and this had none...no coffee whatsoever.

And are any of Bostonians surprised that cases of something are sitting at ultra-overpriced Marty's...???

Guess I'll have to make a quick stop next time I'm up in the NKY. Around Louisville, I've yet to see it at any of the half dozen or so bottle shops I've stopped by during the past month.

    I think it's about 50 IBU.
I got them and really liked it. I'm making my own coffee milk stout. I lowered the IBU to about 36, and boosted the ABV to 5.3 (predicted). Looking forward to it!

Critiquing a beer for what it's not, or comparing it to a different category is common. Not everyone understands the principles of abv-to-body. I rewrote the "commercial description" for the beer that's posted on this website specifically to help communicate that, but preconceived notions will still generally rule the day as that's human nature. If we could master a big body / low abv combination, I'd run for president or invent a time machine or something.
