Of course it's black. And it's an ale. But there are black ales that are not stouts and, to me, that's what this was like. A coffee-flavored black ale. I guess I can't get past the mouthfeel.

Why is this a summer release?

Fall Release. If it would of Been a Summer Release, it would of been on shelves in March/April.

I guess I've just read a lot in this thread of people saying the mouthfeel is a little thin for a stout - when there is nothing inherent about a stout that requires it to have a thicker mouthfeel. And as much as I love viscous black ales, sometimes a lighter bodied stout can be quite refreshing and makes it no less of a stout.

Agreed. I feel like everybody seems to think all stouts these days are supposed to be thick, viscous, and high(ish) abv

Anybody seen this in...ah, why should I even bother to ask? We're always the very last market to see any of these releases.

Narragansett came out with a coffee milk stout last year and that too was thin. It was absolutely delicious though. Looking forward to this one as well.

Had this last night. It's pretty damn tasty. I can imagine it being even better on nitro.

I found it thin and smokey. The coffee just wasn't really there for me. More of a weak porter.

Had it yesterday, pretty good but I like a little more in my coffee stouts. It's a well made beer, I could taste the quality but when this beer is put in the larger spectrum of other beers it doesn't compare. For what it is, it's great. I would like to see it with a higher ABVl.

Found it at Noble Grains in NYC yesterday. I'm a little underwhelmed after all the hype. It's just thin and toasty with slight black licorice. I didn't get a ton of coffee or creaminess.

I hope so! Not nearly enough low alcohol stouts that have a lot of flavor.

Just picked one up today. I'm drinking it now and remember the Narragansett to be a lot better than this. It's pretty disappointing. I don't even get much coffee either.

    I agree.

I mean, for a 4% milk stout, I think it's pretty damn good. It's 4%, its going to be thin.

Mackeson makes a XXX stout (milk stout) that is unbelievable at only 4.9% ABV.

I am having it on tap right now and it is pretty tasty cofee roast flavor with subtle sweet dry finish but probably wouldn't pick up more than one 6 pack of it just like their saison.
