LOL at all the people complaining over craft beer prices!! Umm is this hobby of ours supposed to be cheap? No, suck it up and pay for the beer you want.

Tried my first bottle today. Good stuff, but I think I prefer the last batch of Enjoy By. If I had to guess I'd say its because of the absents of Calypso, a hop I thoroughly enjoy. I haven't read through all the posts, so apologies if this was already answered, but does anyone know why the hops were changed for the unfiltered version of this beer?

EDIT: Just found Stone's post on the hops used. I guess I'm just becoming one of those people who says certain batches are better than others.

It is interesting that according to that post, the site listed the 12.25 regular enjoy by as using Calypso, but then it's not in the updated list for both regular and unfiltered enjoy by... bring on the conspiracy theories.

FWIW I attended a presentation a few years ago where Mitch Steele mentioned that one of the motivations for using so many different hop varieties in brewing Enjoy By was to provide them with 'flexibility' in the production of this beer. For example if a certain hop (e.g., Calypso) was not readily available for a particular batch they could simply omit that hop and since there are so many other hops used in brewing Enjoy By that the omission of this hop would not be noticed in the final product. Whether the brewers at Stone actually adopted this practice of 'flexibility' from batch to batch is something I do not know. Maybe they instead decided to be totally consistent from batch to batch wrt hop varieties utilized?

    Cheers!

Sampled some the other night - tastes a little juicer compared to filtered. Nice!

Just had one from my 2nd six pack and it tastes more pine than citrus for sure and not as hazy..still great.
But figured I mention a slight variation.

Nothing wrong with complaining about high prices, it's when people complain yet still buy (at 'high' prices) that gets me. It's kind of like the people who hate on InBev buying out craft breweries yet go ape shit for BCBS.

Had one tonight. Poured it into a very cold glass that had been outside with me in the snow storm. I think the coldness of the glass helped the haze look really cool. Enjoyed the beer but it wasn't as good as the clown shoes space cake I had right before it.

Just cracked one of my bombers. Pours a semi-hazy amber-orange. It's quite bitter and has a kind of unpleasant funk in the nose that translates to the taste as well. I wonder if there's something wrong with my bottle.

I loved Enjoy By 12/25/15 much more. Don't know what is up with this unfiltered batch.

Had a 12 oz bottle. Poured hazy and had a great nose. This is my favorite of the 6 or so of the series that I've tried. Very smooth and great juicy citrus flavors.

Unfiltered is great stuff especially on tap. One of the best of the series. The Black IPA not so much.

Stupid question, are there now going to be both filtered and unfiltered versions of the Enjoy By series? Because I've always enjoyed them... by... ahem. Sorry. Off-track. I just wondered if there's any thought to having both with the same basic recipe and having a filtered-unfiltered side-by-side.

Either way, Stone makes great stuff. Not to be a kiss-ass, it's just one of the few breweries where I'll try literally anything they make, because I know there's a reason behind it. Didn't like Southern Charred, but damned if I wouldn't try all their weird beers because the track record is there.

no, unfiltered is the new recipe that replaces regular/filtered.

so all there will be going forward is Unfiltered and Black (unless the market really kicks back hard at Stone for the unfiltered and they decide to revert back to the old recipe).

No, they'll be alternating the Unfiltered with Regular and a tangerine-infused version.
