I was just at the store, and the Stone Espresso IRS was $6.50 a bomber, and the Stone IRS was $9 a bomber. Any idea why there was a price difference? How do they stack up against each other?

I think in ca they were about $7 for the bomber but I paid $9 for the regular irs... the espresso at $6.50 is a steal and I'd definitely pick it up... shoot pick up both of em...

The Espresso IRS is one of my favorites, haven't had the regular version. As far as I know, the Espresso was only brewed once so stock up if you see it! It's mostly gone around here.

That's odd... I preferred the Espresso. Maybe the IRS was aged?

I think I'm in the minority, but I'd rather have Stone IRS over Espresso. I LOVE both though. It really comes down to whether or not you want that coffee flavor. 9 bucks seems high. They're both 7 here in Florida.

I'd pay the 9$ for the IRS as that's what bottle shops around me charge for it. I definitely dig the Espresso version much more than just the regular IRS. But both are pretty impeccable.

Not sure why, but both have always been $9-10 in MN. I was shocked when I found out most of you guys were paying somewhere near $6.

My best advice. Get 2 of each. Drink 1 of each and age the rest. Stone RIS ages with the best of 'em.

Cool. I just picked up one of the Espresso, cause I hadn't had it before, and it felt like a steal at that price. I may have to go get more just to age now, though. Unfortunately, I'm running out of shelf space at the minute (although I anticipate the number of friends and family coming through my place this Thanksgiving will seriously change that situation).

I would drink the Espresso ones, and cellar the regular IRS.

Word. Everyone should have a 2+ year Stone RIS at some point in their beer experience. It's a Godbeer at that age.

:slight_frown:Consider yourself lucky at either price. More like $12 in PA (like everything else...over priced)!

I'd buy every Espresso I could get my hands on. 18 months till you'll see it again.

Not sure. Maybe they were having trouble selling the Espresso. They're always priced the same locally. I liked the Espresso, but preferred the IRS. Only drink stouts a couple times a year, and that's one of the few I go to.

I didn't buy a single bottle of Stone during the ~3 years I lived in PA for exactly that reason. I have a bottle of Double Bastard during the Super Bowl every year, but I would buy them when I was home for Christmas and bring 'em back.

Now, as others have said...I'd at least buy one bottle of the IRS and age it for several years. I just had my first aged bottle the other weekend, and at four years old, it was one of the best stouts I've had.

Just bought 1 of each for $6.95 at my local bottle shop in Central CA. The Expresso IRS is one of my favorites.

I had a glass of the espresso version on draft at the Stone Company Store in Pasadena. Couldn't finish the glass. I much, much prefer the "regular" version.

Be careful, I brought up in another stone ris thread that ten fidy was a better buy because stone ris goes for 9$ a bomber where I shop and some crazy asshat came out of the wood work and called me out for being a homer. You've been warned.

I love the Espresso version; for $6.50, I'd definitely pick up some. I had some fresh, and I have two in the cellar. Lovely beer. I haven't had the "regular" RIS, but I'll probably try some next year.

I'd forearm shiver my grandmother in line in front of me to find any more Espresso RIS around here.
