I am considering ordering a Stone Brewery snifter. Comments on their other glassware, the Imperial pint glass and the IPA specialty glass?
I've wanted to get some of these: http://stonecompanystore.com/store/product/612/DBA-Specialty-Glass/ I really like that shape & haven't found it elsewhere before. But every every one of their glasses has this warning: "WARNING: THE MATERIALS USED AS COLORED DECORATIVES OF THIS PRODUCT CONTAIN LEAD, LEAD COMPOUNDS, AND/ OR CADMIUM, WHICH ARE KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER, BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM." I'm just leery on buying something to drink out of that contains lead paint. Kind of weird that they would make that choice.
It's a completely negligible amount, the vast majority of labels on beer glasses (and painted on beer bottles, like Stone uses) include it as a compound in their paints, and it's required by California law to include a warning when it is used in a food or drink vessel, no matter how small the amount. You could use this glass to drink every fluid you ever imbibe for the rest of your life, and you're still more likely to get cancer just by walking in direct sunlight.
Gotcha, thanks for the insight. I've had to deal with cancer in my family, friends, friends' families, etc. too much over the past few years, so I'm pretty sensitive to the risks when I see them. I forgot that CA is stricter on labeling like that than anywhere else. I may have to go ahead order some of those glasses sometime.
