http://www.stonebrewing.com/canada/ For people who aren't able to cross-border beer shop, what are your thoughts on Stone finally starting to trickle into Ontario?
I will take them until I can't get them anymore. I miss Founders. I am waiting with a deep breath at the changes on how alcohol is sold in Ontario, which should be announced in March. This hopefully will produce positive changes where we will see a better system that gives Ontarian's more access from other provinces, as well as the USA. We see this time and a time again that a big US craft-brewer comes in, we get limited products, and then they leave because the LCBO/Beer Store is hard to deal with. Founders, Dogfish Head, Green Flash... Redhook, Atwater, and Smutty Nose is on the way too.
Im with you on Founders. And i gotta admit i really miss being able to walk down the street to grab a sixer of 60 Minute IPA from DogFish.
I did really like it when Founders was on the shelf here. It was pretty much the same price for Backwoods Bastard/Breakfast stout as it was in Michigan and I didn't need to deal with the border, plus it hung around for a while out here.
As a Quebec resident, I'm pretty excited that I might be able to get Stone beer when I visit Ontario! None of that nasty border-crossing business to deal with on the way home.
Stone and Lagunitas are my two favourite breweries. Consistently great beers. Generally hop forward to be sure, which I happen to enjoy, but overall excellent.
What changes specifically? Haven't followed the news recently but i know there's been lots of lobbying of quite a while to change the liquor laws.
I honestly don't no. We will find out in March. Apparently now that the Liberals have wasted about 20 Billion $, the Ontario credit rating is at its lowest, perhaps a big change to bring in revenue/create jobs will no longer be a snowballs chance in hell. Perhaps beer and wine or Ontario made in big chain supermarkets...?
