Founder's RIS is about 10-12 for a 48 oz. I like it better. Bells expedition is about 18 for 72 which is cheaper. Brooklyn Chocolate stout isn't as good but it's WAY the heck cheaper.

Bombers and economical just should never be used together.

Stone IRS is $7.99/bomber in my neck of the woods. All Stone beers are redonk expensive here (example: Oaked Arrogant Bastard $18.99/4 pack, Levitation Ale $17.99/4 pack, Double Bastard $9.99/bomber - this is my favorite beer, but I still think that's too much), hence why although I really enjoy most of their beers I've tried, I don't buy much. $5.99 is certainly reasonable. If that were the case, I'd buy this stuff more often.

Side note - Espresso IRS is still available up here, and I've seen it in stores recently in other parts of Upstate NY.

I think Stone RIS/Espresso are much better than Narwhal. I haven't had tenfidy in a while so no comment. I think I paid 6.99 for mine. I would buy hoppy bombers at that price often. Idk why people act like it's an atrocity when it comes to stouts.

I really think it's because we are so in love with 12oz beers, especially the very high gravity ones. If you want some variety in one sitting, how can you open a 10%+ bomber by yourself? Ok... unless you start very early... So many of us like the 12oz format so we can open a few on a weeknight after work. But breweries come out with higher price per oz bombers, and we have to just stock pile them for a good time to open. That's my take on it anyway...

95% of the time I drink with my roommate (and friends), so we prefer larger bottles for said reason. We did split a Narwhal last night and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm just saying many of the good hoppy beers only come in bombers (or single not 12 oz sizes) and people throw money at Alpine, Lawson's, Russian River, Port, etc. I understand bombers cost more. I'm ok with spending more for Stone RIS because I think it really is better than Narwhal for my palate at least.

I often wind up giving away whole 12 ounce beers too, whereas my friends wouldn't ask for a bomber to themselves. So that drives my 4/6 pack costs up more too lol.

I bought about 8 bottles of the Espresso IRS this year. One of my favorite Imperial Stouts and a bomber bargain at $5.99. I still have one Espresso in the fridge and one regular IRS in the cellar.

IRS is only one of two beers from Stone I like, and the regular IRS is a great value. A few months ago, I had the 2010 Bourbon Barrel-Aged IRS that Stone brought to an event. That was by far the best Stone beer I've had.

It depends on your geography. In PA, there is usually more Old Rasputin and Yeti on the shelves. Plus Founders Imp. Stout and Bells Expedition.

I bought 6 bottles of Espresso IRS @ $7/bottle just last week. I felt lucky to find it and didn't mind the price one bit. Combined with my case of Founder's Breakfast and Old Raspy I'm set. Now when will that Mad Elf hit the shelves?

I've only seen Stone IRS for $9.99 per bomber. Alternatively, I can get Old Rasputin for $7.99 per four pack.
