I disagree. It was subtle but it was definitely there. Instead of the usual malt middle of an IPA there was a coconut flavor. The finish also had an essence of coconut.

I totally agree that coconut was not the major flavor, but the flavor was definitely in the beer, in a complimentary way.

I'm still a bit of a noob so I may be totally wrong.

They advertised it as being like a pina colada so while I didn't taste coconut but could tell it added to the mouthfeel I was disjointed.

Maybe they should have brought Rupert Holmes in on the collaboration as well.

If that's how they advertised it, then I certainly understand your disjointment ;-).

I can discern coconut in the nose, but that's pretty much where it ends. It's a fine IPA, but I wouldn't spend $10 on a bomber again.

I just saw it at Hi-Time Wine. It's a stone collaboration. Anyone try it? I'm scared.

Yeah, it's not good. No coconut flavor whatsoever. Not even a hint. Even the IPA portion of it lacks complexity.

Definitely no coconut there. I was unimpressed.

I thought it was a solid IPA, but yeah for something billed as a coconut IPA, the coconut factor was decidedly lacking.

If KBS was re-branded as a coconut stout it would be less of a lie.

I wouldn't be scared to try it, but don't expect it to taste like the tropics are having a fiesta in your mouth. The smell is quite tropical, but the taste barely shows a hint of coconut. I liked it, I just definitely wanted more coconut.

The Rupert Holmes reference was because of "pina colada"

I don't really understand the 'backlash' over this beer. I mean yeah it wasn't coconut in your face, but do you REALLY want that? It would've been disgusting. I'm not gonna defend this beer to the death, but it was a decent IPA with a nice coconut backbone. You got a little of the sweet coconut on the back end - especially as it warmed. And honestly, what more would you want out of an IPA?

Indeed. And to me, in fact, the coconut edge was rather present, subtle but well integrated with a toasty emerging note, and the pungent IPA edge shined very well. I'd totally have it again...
