Was always a huge fan of this beer. Any chance this is still brewed ever in Cali? Or is 2.0 the only available Ruination.

Don't think it's available in Cali. None left in Wisi?

Unfortunately, Stone is no longer available in Wisi.

Stone 2.0 started production like 6 months ago didn't it?

Don't drink anything without a 2.0 on it

To answer the question, I doubt we'll ever see "1.0" made again. Those "old school" west coast IPAs are probably a think of the past.

Might be time to learn how to make it yourself. Stone released the recipe a while back

i think 2.0 has been out longer than 6 months.

anything original would be well out of date, maybe worth a shot if you LOVE it?

Ya, pretty sure 2.0 has been out close to a year now. Was just wondering if Stone still happened to brew the original Ruination at the brewery at all.

    2.0 replaced the original.

Hopefully they don't start sculpinizing Ruination...

    Ruination 3.0...grapefruit Ruination
    Ruination 4.0...habenero cranberry Ruination
    Ruination 5.0...peachpit cheddar Ruination

...all these adjuncts are getting out of hand

Ruination 1.0 is one of my all time favorites. About a month ago I had an Alpine Hoppy Birthday. It was a very similar profile for me.

My local bottle shop still has quite a few bombers of the original Ruination on the shelf. Every week when I go in there and see them I shudder... :grinning:

Or maybe those West Coast old school IPA's will be part of some "nostalgia series" in the future?

I also miss version 1.0. One of my top 3 from Stone.

Can you guys comment on the main differences between 1.0 and 2.0? I never had 1.0. Thanks

Ruination 2.0 rules. Very similar to pliny. If u want Ruination 1.0 just go get some green flash West coast

IIRC, Ruination 1.0 was Centennial & Magnum/Columbus for bittering. Ballast Point Big Eye will get you that general flavor (not as bracing of a bitterness, but still).

I'm going to have to assume the Hoppy Birthday was over a year old. The malt bill on batch 1 ruination is way different than that of Hoppy Birthday

When they announced the 2.0 version I threw an original in the fridge and held it until 2.0 came out so I could do a side by side. By the time I got 2.0, the original was close to it's best, and had clearly faded, but was still a great beer.

I didn't take detailed notes and wasn't quite as fussy in my beer drinking then so I can't say exactly what the differences were, but I can give you my recollections. The original had a faded aroma compared to 2.0, but I expected this given the age. It was more piney/herbal than the 2.0's more fuity bright aroma. Original struck me as slightly more bitter, though 2.0's bitterness was clear and very flavorful. Kinda like pure bitterness versus tasty bitterness. Which is not at all a knock on original Ruination. I had enjoyed it many times before and knew that bitterness well; it just seemed slightly more one-note than 2.0. In general I prefer the older style IPAs so it was no surprise I preferred the original. Not that I don't like 2.0. I've had many times since and I think it's a tasty, well-balanced IPA. It just lacks the herbal aroma I recall from the original. But again, that's just my rose-tinted nostalgia.

Thanks for the heads up. I may just do that. I also noticed this same shop has Enjoy By 12.25.2015 still on the shelf.
