I missed the editing window, but I meant the original was nearing the end of it's shelf life, not that it had reached it's best. Silly typo.

It was fresh. More likely the result of a combination of fading memory and palate fatigue.

I've seen this at quite a few places here in Atlanta. I just can't imagine someone buying a beer that has printed on it, "Enjoy By 12/25/15" or "2/14/16". There are way too many great beers to buy a beer past its prime.

And 1.0 was easily my favorite of all time. That's the beer that brought me into the "hoppier, the better" feeling. Love that stuff. I've had 2.0 and it's just not the same.

Ruination 2.0 was a blast, and probably the best IPA I ever had from Stone. Until the Enjoy By Unfiltered happened. From then on, my loyalty's been like a man torn between his hot wife and a hotter girlfriend. And the girlfriend's winning...

2.0 is it. It's been out for awhile now since last summer i believe.

Your palette matches mine exactly. 2.0 and Unfiltered are by far the best tasting hop forward Stone beers I've had to date.

It was just original Ruination...and it was a straight ahead, fantastic bitter-bomb detonated on your tongue. Some things shouldn't change. The 2.0 was so disappointing to me. I can count on half of one hand the times I returned beer to a store. Fresh 2.0 was one instance. Tried it on tap for free in SoCal 3 months ago. Changed my opinion a little. Glad I didn't buy it though. Next up? Arrogant Bastard 2.0!

I totally agree! The original Ruination is one of my all time favorite beers. And I'm a big fan of Stone in general. It was one of the first DIPAs I had about 11 years ago or so when I was just really getting into craft beer. The 2.0 version just didn't kick my palate's ass the way the original did. I really hope that Stone brings back the original in some capacity one day!

Man the original was like my first DIPA that I liked/became addicted to. They had it on tap constantly at the WF I went to and the growlers were pretty cheap, I think over a 2 month period I went thru like 6 growlers of that beer alone. Must have been the bar manager liked it because they haven't had it back in like 8 months.

I've only had 2.0 once but the original I've had too many times to count. Anyway, I found the original to be more bitter, resinous and piney. 2.0 has more of a tropical fruit flavor, similar to Enjoy By.

The original had a more unique taste while I found 2.0 to be similar to a lot of other IPAs that have come out in the past few years.

    Bingo!!!

It's a far better thing in my eye to stand apart than to blend in with the crowd. Now Ruination is just another beer, which is a shame.
