Prefer the 2.0. Still unique and pretty bitter but purer and so delicious.

Haven't the new and the only memorable rendition of the old was the Double Dry Hopped one which was most excellent. Not going to hold my breath for 12 packs which is the only way I'm buying this new stuff.

Can drink them both, but 2.0 is freaking amazing. Not quite my favorite 2IPA, but definitely up there. Thanks to Greg for coming on the message boards and giving us your Buddha like observations and thoughts!

The new version is kind of like that John Lee Hooker album The Healer; done in a contemporary (for the time) style, with some discernible JLH personality simmering under the surface. But, dammit, when I'm jonesing for John Lee Hooker I want it straight and uncut.

Well sorry to bust some balls here but Double Dry Hopped Ruination 2.0 shits on Regular 2.0 and OG Ruination.

New is way better IMO. I had the old version twice and both times I could barely finish it. New one I pounded a bomber with no probs.

Double dry hopped you say? I must drink this...

You Must! That version gave me a hop boner! Just that raw hop experience with a nice Sweetness for balance.

I prefer the original. Do we have polls on BA??

    This thread needs a poll.

Where in Maryland did you find the double dry hopped version? Tap only? Bottled? Out of state travel?

Max's has it on tap in Fell's Point Baltimore City brother. It's banging.

I loved the original (pre-2013), when it was mostly centennial in the flavour.

The 2013 refresh had more pine from the Chinook and the alcohol heat was much more apparent as well.

The 2.0 certainly has more hop flavour to round out the bitterness. Back-to-back with the '1.1', this the clear winner. It still has the centennial backbone, but the simcoe, citra and azacca give it some real depth (and new school flavour). I didn't find it dank, but I might've chosen mosaic over simcoe for an ultra contemporary flavour.

I've always like both, 1.0 for the floral hop blend and malty bready flavors, and I really like 2.0 for it's dry, piney resin saturated bitterness.

The original was an experience. It was kinda like hearing Slint's Spiderland for the first time. I wasn't sure that I liked it, but knew that there was a lot going on. Over time I learned to love it, but it was always somewhat exhaustive/grating.

2.0 is kinda like Pearl Jam ripping off Nirvana, easy on the ears but without the depth of it's predecessor, and honestly, it's easily forgotten once the glass is empty.

1.0 may not have been better, per se, but it certainly had more personality.

@StoneGreg Hows about making a ruination mixed 1.0/2.0 sixer for next year, that way we can do a side by side of Stone's most badass IPA and end the debate. Mix them 50/50 to create ruination 3.0 BOOOOOM!!!!

Pearl Jam did not rip off Nirvana. Totally different sounds, not to mention that Pearl Jam is still cranking out new (and good) tunes over twenty years later.

But I do agree with you about the beer.
