Picked up a bottle of this at a wine shop this weekend. Just noticed it says best before 3/13/14 and drink fresh on it. So what aspects of this brew wouldn't age well enough to put the option on the label? Just looked it up on the Stone website and they have an option to report the sale of out of date beer with a disclaimer that the vendor will not get in trouble. I age a lot of dark beers and it seems this one sounds like a good choice.

I had kept a orange/chocolate smoked porter around for too long. But drank it and it held up awesome. Really impressive beer. Led me to buy the vanilla one. I haven't opened it yet.

Had it last night and was very good. They should label it with the aging option.

They're covering their asses. If indeed the beer falls apart (they wouldn't know, it's a new beer for them), they can say it tasted bad because it was old. All breweries do this.
