"Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA) has just announced the last Ground Breaking Collaboration, this time with Surly Brewing.

Like some of the other offerings, the actual beer is yet to be named.

The 1.5 liter bottle runs $30, isn’t even live yet on the IndieGoGo page.

Stone was aiming for at least a $1 million, and currently has raised $2.3 million dollars in collaboration beer sales."

Edit: Here's the link to the indiegogo site mentioned, looks like some good stuff in the works

Definitely intrigued by this since the style isn't mentioned in the initial press release, as I didn't see another thread about this announcement, I'll keep an eye out for any updates.

The key point that jumped out at me is that it needs to be picked up at Stone. Which is a bit of a trek.
They will ship in Europe, but not in 'Merica, which is frustrating because, ya know, 'Merica.

Yeah I was very disappointed to hear this won't be distributed in MN. What the hell, Surly? Did we bitch too much?

No, not enough. Look what happened when we didn't stop whining about BA Darkness...

It will be brewed in Berlin at the new Stone facility there. The brewery isn't scheduled to be done until "late 2015" so this beer is a ways out.

The magnum will have to be picked up at Stone. Reading between the lines of this whole "fundraiser" thing, there will almost certainly be 750s of the collaborations distributed.

Are you sure? What I got from it was that they were only brewing as much as people bought up front.

greg koch has been saying things like, "if you want to MAYBE get one of these bottles once they're released for more money than you'd pay now..."
and i'd imagine that if people don't pick up their bottles after a certain time frame, they will be sold to the public. i'd get the dayman IPA, but i can't be sure that i'll be able to make a trek to virginia or ohio within weeks after it comes out.

I was worried about that too, but they give you a year to pick up your purchase. That's a pretty generous time frame.

it actually says at least a year to pick them up. but i mean, IPA's are supposed to be consumed fresh. i don't want to have make a last minute trip to go pick up a bottle of beer. i reserved the woot stout and the aloha stout, that way i know i won't need to rush to get it.

Kind of, the 1.5 liter bottles are limited to the Indigogo campaign, but wholesalers have been snatching up the beers left and right:

    http://beerpulse.com/2014/07/stones...king-collaborations-to-hit-distribution-3380/
The Indiegogo website alludes that they will be sold in local markets and that they may be different sizes including 750s:
    https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stone-groundbreaking-collaborations--2
The collaborating breweries will also be lucky enough to buy their own beer at market prices:
    https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stone-groundbreaking-collaborations--2#activity

So, in the end, both distributors and the collaborative brewery (Surly) will be able to purchase the collaboration en masse, and the distributors already have been.

Honestly I'm not going to spend money on a beer TODAY that nobody knows what style it will be, how fresh it should be consumed, or how good it will turn out (from Stone which honestly has been hit and miss with their collaborations) and commit to a vacation in a few years in order to travel a significant distance to either the east or west coast to pick it up, and somehow get it back home. That's way too much to ask from a consumer. I'd rather sit back, see how it plays out, and pick it up at a local store or risk it not being available locally. I'll gladly pay the marked up price for the latter.

Greg Koch was in Minneapolis MOnday filming a Surly collab video I assume.
